Toddler eating after covid

DS is 2. He was ill last week, I caught it, I’ve tested positive for covid so assuming that’s what he’s had.

He was the best eater - literally eats everything and anything put in-front of him. Now he takes a couple of bites and tells me that everything tastes “not nice” 😬 I get it - everything smells and tastes absolutely vile to me currently too. He’s just constantly upset about being hungry but won’t eat anything substantial as it’s “not nice”.

Any suggestions for tastes that may work?

Ahhh, it must be so hard at that age as they can't understand why things suddenly smell and taste foul. Although your son doesn't have long covid, it may be worth going on the long covid for kids forums on Twitter etc, as they may have some tips.

@Periornot Great idea, thank you! I’ll have a look at that! 😊 He seems absolutely fine other than the taste issue thankfully!! Had 3/4 days last week where we were both feeling really under the weather!
Its just hard because as an adult obviously you know you need to eat even if nothing tastes right 🙈 but he just wants something nice 🙈 even his absolute favourite foods he’s dismissing as “not nice!”

He'll been fine for a few days if he doesn't eat massive amounts. Let him graze and don't make an issue out of the eating as he'll pick up on your stress. Offer lots of different foods to pick at as some tastes might be less affected than others.
Try to keep him hydrated though. Taste usually returns after 7-14 days so hopefully he'll be back to normal ASAP.

@elevenplusdilemma That’s exactly what we’ve been doing 😊 fingers crossed it doesn’t last too much longer!
