HV advice "No sugar or salt for children" seriously,...

My two eat a really healthy balanced diet. I am pretty pleased with it HOWEVER when the HV acts like it is reasonable to suggest that children eat no sugar or salt at all I find that ludicrous!

Of course I am aware of RDAs for salt and stick well, well below them and sugar minimal too.

Anyone out there who's DCs eat no salt or sugar?????

I don't know how you'd manage that. I can understand not ADDING salt or sugar to prepared food, but not buying anything with these ingredients already in would be nigh impossible.

skerriesmum · 08/02/2008 20:03

Even bread has salt and sugar in it.

It would be impossible even home made bread has to have salt in it.

Does she mean added salt and sugar?
You can do without added salt or sugar but as skerriesmum says both are ingredients in other foods.

She means no added sugar or salt to prepared food doesn't she?

TotalChaos · 08/02/2008 20:09

surely she just means not to add salt or sugar? she can't mean no fruit???

scottishmummy · 08/02/2008 20:30

i dont add any salt/sugar to food i prepare, but obviously also eat out and use shop bought products and thus it is unaviodable that some salt etc is added.

i imagine one could be salt/sugar/additive free if you had the time/money/stamina to do so, but you would probably end up exhausted, unable to eat out and a bit wabbit with it all

anyway who wants to end up a weedy about a boy mama
