Colic, reflux or just fussy baby?

Baby is 8 weeks old and formula fed. So far they've been a happy content baby no issues until now. They've started becoming 'fussy' the same time for the last few evenings and it lasts about an hour before they fall asleep. Loud crying, arching back, wanting milk but then spitting the bottle out, and loads of gulping/swallowing noises. They seem really uncomfortable and crying like in pain and unlike any other cry they do normally. They only do this in the evenings and not at any other time. Any advice welcome Sad

Sounds like wind pain to me, try infacol drops, they'll work a treat if that is the problem. Best wishes and hope you get some peace soon!

It could be a tired baby. Maybe put to bed a bit earlier? (easier said than done at 8 weeks, i know!)

There is lots of melatonin around in the evening, so it's a different feeling to daytime tiredness

Sounds like wind - I'd give them a really good winding for about 20 minutes after that last "fussy" feed trying all different positions. Also try bicycle legs etc (how are they with pooping? Are they a "once a week" baby or pretty regular?)
You can always pop them upright in a sling after the feed to get wind up if you've got things to do! X

Wind or tiredness. Colic is more like hours and hours of unexplained crying. Have they had their eight-week jabs? That seems to kickstart evening aggro in babies sometimes. Getting enough daytime sleep? Too much stimulation? As they get more alert they need to be actively switched off a bit more Vs the early drowsy days.

@bussteward thank you for replying and interesting point there as he did have his first jabs on Monday and it probably started after then! He is a very sleepy baby and sleeps well and a lot in the day and does get overtired so that could be contributing.

Thank you all for replying. I will give all the suggestions a go and will pick some infacol up later just incase Smile

Awww first jabs made my baby's tummy really painful for a few days. Lots of grunting and pooping.
It'll be wind, overtiredness and/or jabs.
Good luck x

Yep, DS had his jabs yesterday and went from being a textbook sleepy sausage to a screaming ratbag in the evening – gave me PTSD flashbacks to DD’s colic. An evening of screaming at my nipple like it was a gun to his mouth.

Hopefully that’s it OP and baby will settle – some things you just have to tough out and time cures them, rather than snake oil and gadgets.
