Is Ella's kitchen full of Crap ?

Baby is 5 months, has cmpa and is on aptimal pepti 1 for this.
I've started giving her little tastes of carrot and broccoli puréed myself at home. We're waiting for an appointment with the dietician.

Was just in the shop and thought I'd grab a couple of Ella's kitchen pouches to see how she gets on, it says on the back what's in them but just wondering is there anything hidden ? I'm worried about any dairy being in there that isn't stated !

Thanks

What I found with the Ella's kitchen is, that most of them contain a fruit.

E.g. carrot broccoli and apple.

So the sugar content will be very high and it will taste very sweet. And obviously because it is pureed this causes the blood sugars to spike quicker.

If you are going to use them, make sure it's the ones only with veg in them, as they try to hide the very high sugar content by putting 2 veg names on the front and only one fruit.

So even though there is only one fruit name on the packet the sugar content is very high. Pros- the baby likes it and will eat it
Cons- baby gets a sweet tooth and wont eat normal veg or less sweet foods.

Did you read PPs comments about the signs of readiness, OP? Eyeing up your food is not one of them. (Just in case you thought it was)

Annabel Karmel doesn't have any qualifications in child development or nutrition AFAIK, babies should only be weaned early on medical advice. NHS guidelines say that weaning should start at 'around 6 months' and that signs of readiness are babies being able to:

stay in a sitting position, holding their head steady

coordinate their eyes, hands and
mouth so they can look at their
food, pick it up and put it in their
mouth

swallow food (rather than spit it
back out)

This! 💯

its not true, they don't state all of the ingredients on the packaging. simply google: baby food + arsenic. law suits are going on right now for this....for organic one ingredient baby pouches.

I would not assume anything in a processed form is safe to eat.

We're in the UK. We don't have this problem. Our food standards are higher than the USA.

I do believe they use the worst of the organic fruit and veg to make the pouches. Of the organic items, what couldn't sell in the supermarket because of it's poor quality, went into the pouches. Nobody will see it and it can legally be advertised as organic. Also this stuff doesn't taste good at all. I feel sorry for those poor babies who eat them.

What on earth makes you think this? And not good quality in what way? An oddly shaped potato?

Don't worry I won't be using them a lot ! I just wanted to give her a taste because she hated carrot and broccoli! But I have some frozen ready to go that I puréed the other day.

I have the Annabel Karmel books and she says weaning is fine from 17 weeks but never before ? Only fruits and veggies though. She also states if you leave it until 6 months you don't have much time to play around and need to get the critical nutrients into them... so I'm just giving myself some time for her to get used to it.
My baby is 20 weeks now.

This is rubbish, they don't need nutrients from food until 12m.

The pouches are alright but loads of sugar (all brands). Making your own is better, can batch free in giant ice cube trays. Think I only did about 5 lots. Also remember reading that it's better to give them single fruit or veg at first and a lot of pouches are mixes.

Perhaps it's an old book. Back in the early 90s when my children were babies 4 months was the earliest time recommended to introduce solids. I believe it used to be even earlier a few decades earlier.

It was four months when I had my children 40 years ago. I don't understand the logic to wait until six months at all.

Ahh thanks everyone ! My anxiety takes over sometimes !

Hi
No I think it’s normal to question it. I thought the exact same thing because I don’t understand how it can just be 100% veg? Surely there needs to be a type of preservative in there
