Cloth/reusable nappies

I'm currently almost 17 weeks pregnant and I've been seeing cloth nappies mentioned quite a bit recently.

I was wondering if those of you that have used them could give me some insights on the dos and don'ts, would you recommend them, basically anything and everything you could tell me and give me info on will be helpful.

The thing that worries me/puts me off the most is getting the poo off. I can't imagine stood rinsing poo off into a bucket or over the bath 🙈 I've heard some come with a disposable biodegradable liner you can use that catches the worst of it and then you throw that away, but all the nappies I've looked at don't seem to come with those.

Feeling pretty clueless 😂

You buy them separately, it's like a big roll of kitchen roll and you tear a sheet off for each nappy change then flush it down the toilet when it's dirty.

I recommend doing a Nappy Lady quiz. I went for the TotsBots bamboozle two part complete kit

Also join cloth nappy UK Facebook group to ask lots of questions and get advice. There's lots of selling groups on FB and there's Vinted too.

I've managed to get a lot of the bits I needed on Vinted brand new for half the price they are on the brands website

As a side note, there’s a few comments about disposable liners being flushed down the toilet…. They are not flushable! Nothing should be going down your toilet except toilet roll. They are not the same, in the same way toilet wipes are not flushable

I know it is. The pp I quoted who thinks having shit going round the washer is wrong since you do wash breastfed baby poo...

You quoted me. I can categorically say I've never had an actual turd going round my washing machine like a hamster in a wheel after 2.5 years of cloth nappies and a breastfed child. If all you're on about is soluble breast milk poo then I honestly can't see what the big deal is. It's no different to putting soiled baby clothes in the wash 🤷‍♀️

The best thing that we did was get one of those attachable bidet sprayers for the toilet. It is cheap, easy to attach and works so well! You just hold the nappy in the toilet and spray the poo away!

There is so much information around about cloth nappies. I really like this guide to all of the acronyms etc that people use, and it goes over the types of nappies and materials too.

Thanks everyone for all your replies, you've all been super helpful. I am reading them all and taking them all in, I've just been super busy lately and had some health issues too so I can't get round to replying to everyone individually. But I do appreciate all the replies and it's given me some good info and stuff to look at ☺️
