Hand foot mouth 7 month old

My toddler bought back hand foot mouth and has passed it to my 7 month old.

Yesterday she had a temp and today she has the rashes on her hands feet and around mouth. Her temp has now gone.

She will not stop crying though, shes inconsolable apart from when she's sleeping. As soon as she wakes she's crying. She's teething too so I imagine it's a combination of both. Calpol, nurofen, teething powders, anbesol nothing settles her. She's drinking her milk, slightly less than Normal but not of a concern.

I spoke to doctor about my toddler having it and they said nothing they can do just runs its course and to keep eye out for spiking temp etc but my baby hasn't got that.

Has anyone experienced this with hand foot mouth? Online it says most cases are mild etc but she seems to be very distressed.

Appreciate any advice

Sorry to hear its so rough. Yep, it can be mild, my daughter caught it and had one spot, I caught it from her and it was one of the worst things I've ever had. My son had it recently and he was quite sick, spots like you describe on his face, inside his mouth, hands, back of legs and bum. They are so miserable I think because of the mouth and throat ulcers, they are very sore. Unfortunately you're doing all you can already. Solidarity x

Been there. Sugar free jelly, mini milk ice lollies, baby rice pudding and lots of cuddles. Hope your baby feels better soon

Worst thing we have had, DD was about 18 months. She might have ulcers in her mouth. It isn't pleasant but I think it's normal for them to be pretty unhappy with it. We just kept on top of pain killers and tried to give ourselves a few easy days.

Yeah it can be a rough illness, my dd1 had it when she was 6 months and then I caught it, I found it to be awful. They can start to stop eating/drinking as their throat can be dire just monitor their nappies for hydration levels

Thanks everyone. I have it too so I know how awful she must be feeling.

It was just the non stop crying that was worrying me but I guess if she's feeding to an acceptable level and no temperature then it must be just the discomfort.

Let's hope it passes asap it is by far the worst of many things my toddler has bought back from nursery!!!

My daughter has had this twice. Bad both times, I couldn't believe she had it the second time. Both time refusing drink. The second time we literally had to pin her down to drink something otherwise would have ended in a hospital trip. Awful. I usually find it's bad for a few days but by day 4 it gets better. Just keep an eye on other random side effects afterward like peeling finger nails and toenails. Weird! I didn't catch it either time by some miracle! It's really nasty. Solidarity. X
