Baby due April. Would like to get my 2.5yo toddler a gift from the new baby but don't know what.

Did anyone else here do similar? Any ideas?

We’re getting them something matches rather than from the baby to the bigger one. DD will be just 4 so wouldn’t believe the baby has bought her something, might be different with yours as younger. I think it’ll be soft toys so they have something similar/the same as each other.

Not what you asked but my thoughts as due in a few weeks.

I got a special doll and toy pram, but yours is older and maybe has these already? DD1 loved copying Mummy but a bit perplexed by breastfeeding.

We got a jigsaw just because DD1 loved them. We also took her to a baby shop and got her to pick out a little toy for the baby as well - she chose a little soft teddy bear rattle.

We got ours a pram and a toy dolly, then also she chose the new baby a soft little rabbit comforter thing too. We also got her a lovely book about being a big sister

My DD1 was 5 when DD2 was born. We got her a Barbie as a gift from the baby and she was so thrilled with it. She is 30 now and still talks about the amazing Barbie she got 'from' her sister.

When I was waiting for the bus the other day, there was a man at the stop with his toddler son. The boy was wearing a T-shirt with the words "Best Big Brother in the World" on it. I said how sweet it was and the man said that they were just on the way to the hospital to see his wife who had had a baby that the toddler was going to meet for the first time and that the T-shirt was a "birth present" from the new sibling. It was absolutely adorable and the toddler was really proud of it.

I'd suggest something like that and a small toy that your toddler would like.

Hope all goes well. x

DD gave DS a construction toy. It all fitted into it's own carry box so it was easy to take into different rooms if I was stuck somewhere with the baby.
I think the unexpected gift was the main thing, but it remained a firm favourite for many years.

We got some activity books “from” the baby, and the first Christmas DS2 bought a lovely personalised book for DS1.

Sibling gifts in our house were:
-A photo album with family photos and a camera so that dd could take photos with the baby to add to her album.

  • set of Julia Donaldson books.
  • matching big and little soft toys with the new baby having the smaller one.

We also got the older siblings to choose which outfit the new baby would wear as their "first outfit" so that the baby would be wearing something the children recognised on the first meeting. Not a gift I know but the kids were happy to be involved in dressing the baby.

my Eldest saw a toy he wanted and I just bought it and hid it until his brother was born, it was a toddler transformer. I don’t think it needs to be something specific just a toy he sees that he likes and small enough to fit in your hospital bag.

Dd2 "bought" dd1 a new doll and blanket. Dd1 "breastfed" her doll by sticking it up her jumper.

We didn’t do a gift but my two month old regularly ‘delivers’ my two year old his favourite toys and snacks. He finds it especially funny to see his little brother bring him something back from paying in coffee shops etc.

I got a doll from my sister. I still have it, even though my sister is 53! My mum bought it with her Green Shield Stamps (like Nectar Points, for those of you under 50!)
