Has anyone else’s LO had a similar rash? If so what was it in the end ? What helped? Also what moisturiser was the best for yours to help the dryness? I’ve tried a few but they aren’t great.

I’m starting to maybe think CMPA so I’ve started to cut dairy out this week to see if there is any difference. He is ebf and is sick after every feed. I have been to the doctors numerous times, tried many creams and been referred to a consultant however the appointment is not until May.

I’m just looking for any tips or advice to try help him in the meantime. I’ll do anything to help him, he constantly itches, have also been given antihistamines for this for him they don’t seem to help.

Going from what my eldest DS had it looks like eczema but I'm not a doctor so don't take my word for it.
The only thing that helps my DS is Aveeno or Zeroveen. When it gets like your baby's they prescribe an antibiotic cream.

Forgot to add my youngest DS (twin) 10 weeks old has suspected CMPA so he is on dairy free formula but didn't have a rash with it. It took a little while for the milk to make a bit of a difference though. If it is CMPA and you've cut out dairy I think it takes a while for them to adjust/see a difference.

Thank you for your reply. yeah we were given steroid cream for flare ups but it seems to be always like that at the min and can’t keep using steroid on his skin constantly so just trying to figure out what triggers it. I also read about 3 weeks to see a difference so will see xx

The steroids should be used for a few days after the flare up has settled to help with inflammation under the skin

MCMP13 · 15/02/2023 11:55

Hi, I know but he has flare ups all the time and you shouldn’t use steroids long term x

Cetraben is the best cream I've found so far. DS has CMPA, when I cut out dairy his skin improved significantly in just a few days but you might have to wait up to 6 weeks to see the full impact.

If you're cutting out dairy I'd cut out soya too as they have similar proteins. There is a CMPA breastfeeding support group on Facebook which is quite helpful sometimes. It can take up to six weeks to notice a difference once you've cut it out of your diet, we saw a difference within two weeks. Bad rash, mucous nappies, eczema, runny nappies, reflux and congestion. Only thing that's stayed is the reflux, but gaviscon helps a little with that. When my first had eczema we used zero base cream and the doctor said to apply it eight times a day initially and not to rub it in properly, that helped massively.

It's called Breast Feeding - CMPA support

It's interesting you should say that because DS who's 10 weeks has suspected CMPA has been put on a cows milk free formula but the last 2 days his poo's have returned to green and he's quite snuffly compared to his twin.

@PinkButtercups DD stil gets some mucous nappies, but not as runny and not as frequent, and is congested, meant to include congestion with the things that remained. I have an older DD with a dust and grass allergy, and DH is allergic to dust, grass and cats, so I wouldn't be surprised if youngest DD is the same, hence the congestion. Intrigued to see.what weaning throws up hopefully nothing.

@MCMP13 my 8 month old has the exact same rash as your LO. Wanted to jump on to ask how your LO is doing now? My DS was fine while I was breastfeeding but the rash appeared as soon as we moved to formula, tried HIPP Organic first but he has suspected CMPA so we're on Pepti 1 now which has calmed his skin somewhat but still hasn't cleared it. We were prescribed Daktacort cream but, like you, didn't want to use this for any long period and because the rash is widespread found that the little tube we got was gone within a couple of days and before things had fully cleared. I found that the cream really dried his skin out too. Using Hydromol as a daily emollient but I'm not convinced it's helping.
Have you found a moisturiser/solution that's worked for your LO?

MCMP13 · 15/03/2023 14:02

@IrishMomOf2 since cutting out dairy I have seen a huge improvement in all symptoms. The rash on his body has pretty much gone which I couldn’t believe. His neck rash is still there and we have good and bad days with it - the drool ain’t helping. We are back on hydrocortisone, when we stop it the rash just comes back 🤷🏻‍♀️. The doctor reassured me the one we have is the lowest dose and will be fine but I still don’t like using it all the time.

We moisturise with diprobase advanced eczema cream a few times a day. It’s better than the others we have tried xx

Hello, this post has brought back some traumatic memories 😂😂

Yes, almost 3 year old now and since this post he has had skin prick tests and blood tests and all have been positive for egg, milk and soy allergy. He is anaphylactic to dairy has to carry an epi pen.

After cutting those out of his diet his skin is almost perfect. He has a flare up on the back of his legs creases and elbow now and then but nothing major x
