Baby loud/wheezy/squeaky inhale when excited or babbling

Hi all,
I'm waiting for contact from my HV but wanted to gather others' experiences while I'm waiting.
My son is 4 months old. I have anxiety around his health which I'm receiving support for so I'm always worrying that small things are much worse than they really are.
For the last week or so, he has been making this really strange sound when breathing in but only at certain times. When he's excited, babbling or sometimes crying, he inhales through his mouth rather than his nose and he makes a sharp, wheezy, squeaky noise. Almost like a loud gasp. He shows no signs of struggling to breathe and is otherwise healthy and happy. My husband thinks it's normal because baby is fine and happy when he's making the sound and he says he would be upset if there was a problem. He doesn't make the sound when he's calm, resting or sleeping, only when he's using his voice or getting excited. My only rationalisation is that he could be quickly taking in more breath because he's using more to use his voice.
I'm aware my anxiety is probably just making this seem worse than it is but has anyone else experienced this who could share?

Could it be laryngomalacia? Usually something they grow out of I think!

My newborn makes these weird noises while feeding - was assured it's nothing to worry about if not causing issues.

@CastleTower I've just had him at the GP and they said that's what it is. I'll try to stop freaking out now 🙈

Mine had this! Was terrifying at the time but it didn’t last long and it was completely harmless.

My first thought was Laryngomalacia as the above poster said. My son had it but grew out of it and it sounds pretty similar. To get diagnosed we filmed him doing it because it’s really hard to accurately describe.

Normal. My daughter had this, she soon grew out of it

I could have written this exact post!! I also have really bad anxiety about my baby's health.
My daughter is 6 months and has been making the sound since around 4 months. I was freaking out, but my health visitor said it's completely normal. She then weirdly just stopped doing it altogether, so I completely forgot about it, then about a week ago she started again! She's stopped again now, so I don't know what's going on with her 🙈
But I'm glad it's not just my daughter and it seems to be normal

@Aldisfinest @Chickencricket @Embelline @Putyourfeckingsockson Thank you for your replies, I didn't see them until now.
Doctor agrees it is laryngomalacia and that he will grow out of it.
