Baby monitor to use in hotel on wifi

There are loads of reviewsbut I feel baffled. I want a camera baby monitor which rubs off wifi. Ideally I'd like to use my phone to view or a seperate handset.

Lots of hotels actually offer this as a service aka they provide monitors so you can have dinner in the restaurant. We've done it before in a small boutique hotel and it felt ok but I wouldn't do it in a big hotel - you know what you're comfortable with.

Think everyone piling on is unfair, I know loads of people who have done this.

Yeah I was about to say this - check out the family friendly hotels chain if you haven’t already OP

i wouldn’t do this in a massive Hilton which has 1800 rooms but yes I’d do it in a small hotel like the ones in the family friendly chain or another place in ullswater etc etc

think the pile on is a little unfair (but not surprising)

we use a ring doorbell camera OP, that links to your phone and has a wide range

Undermyumberellaellaella · 16/02/2023 09:19

For fuck sake don't do this.

Why would you need to hire staff? Just take the baby with you.

We travelled loads when our kids were little. Never left them alone in a room or hired anyone to look after them. The great thing about babies is they sleep wherever.

Do they? Several babies I know must not have read this chapter in the “how to be a baby” manual they come equipped with

Then they are going to be crying in the hotel room - which is unlikely to lead to a fun dinner for OP or the other diners.

So you don't eat out in a restaurant. That's life with babies. You don't leave them and go anyway

Galadriel90 · 16/02/2023 09:23

When mine was a baby we just ordered room service. No way would I leave him in the room.

Twizbe · 16/02/2023 09:25

@ChampagneLassie then room service or don't go to a hotel with your baby.

That's life with little kids.

HettyMeg · 16/02/2023 09:26

Do you actually think bad things don't happen to rich people? 🤔

toomuchlaundry · 16/02/2023 09:28

How old is your baby?

Yep pretty much

Whiskeypowers · 16/02/2023 09:37

Hope you have abandoned this stupid and irresponsible idea now OP

FixTheBone · 16/02/2023 09:45

On a practical note - you have no guarantee that the hotel WiFi is particularly secure - they generally run minimum security to ensure maximum device compatibility - which means other people may well be able to watch your baby as well....

Plenty of times in hotels I've been able to browse the contents of people's laptops who've left open access to sharing etc

fugly1 · 16/02/2023 09:48

Wow! Unbelievable, who in their right mind would do that!!

ChampagneLassie · 16/02/2023 09:48

Right the oppribrium has made me book a nanny. You'll be pleased to hear I've got a primary teacher now babysitting whilst I'll be having dinner 2 mins walk away.

I mentioned it was a 5 star hotel as I think it's probably a bit more secure than a travel lodge or such (lots of staff randoms can't easily get keys etc). Im very familiar with the hotel and know exactly how long it takes to walk to the room as I've stayed before.

Perhaps I am selfish in still wanting to have a social life now I have a child. I don't think an occasional dinner is that selfish.

There is nothing wrong with having a social life, but there is an issue with leaving a baby unsupervised while you do it. Booking childcare is a much more sensible approach.

Mumof1andacat · 16/02/2023 09:53

If you want a social life, get adequate and safe childcare. If you have money to stay in a 5 star hotel, you'll have money for a baby sitter. My friend was a baby sitter for a 5 star hotel. Parents paid her, child was safe and parents ate dinner

Iggii · 16/02/2023 09:54

If people thought it was wrong for you to have a social life, you will get lots of posts criticising you for hiring a babysitter

Excellent news. Have a nice dinner.

NB staff at prestigious five star hotels are no more honest than those at Travelodge type hotels and security will be no better.

Polly, if you're a real person rather than a bot, you might want to rethink this advert.

I reported this post when it appeared, as it seems MN is condoning it. So far they've left it to stand.

It’s not selfish to have a social life. You just need appropriate childcare.

It is selfish to leave your baby at risk to have said social life.

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 16/02/2023 10:01

Please do you research on this, if very very wary of doing this on a hotel WiFi as it could easily be hacked (even home cameras can never hacked, but assuming a hotel one would be much more susceptible). I think with a monitor you should really be on a secure network, I'd check with someone who has some expertise in this area

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/02/2023 10:01

OP you never answered my question about dining at a neighbours house and leaving your baby home alone.

GelPens1 · 16/02/2023 10:01

If you want a child-free dinner in a 5* hotel then leave the baby at home with family/babysitter.

Pylerbot · 16/02/2023 10:07

Honestly, I think you’re completely bonkers to risk this, I honestly do. Why do you think a prestigious hotel would be safer? The staff and people who frequent do have the possibility of being just as dangerous as a cheap Travelodge. Just because someone has money doesn’t mean they’re any safer than someone without
