Nuby Rapid Cool

Hi all

Just been told I shouldn't use a prep machine for bottle feeding (having some tummy issues and difficulty settling after a feed)
Could anyone tell me what they think of the Nuby rapid cool flask? Is it another machine I'll not be advised to use? Waiting 30min for water to cool down during the night is so difficult when already running on such little sleep?
Thank you

No advice on that but could you make the bottles up in advance from the kettle, put in the fridge and then in the night all you have to do is take one out and stand it in some warm water for a bit to warm it

loopyloutoo · 14/02/2023 17:36

Hi @Cuwins thank you - I was told that's not recommended either but I know people who have done it in the past?
Anything to make things easier would be great

Could you use premade overnight?

If you're having issues with tummy upsets I would use any other short cuts to prep the formula.

That's what we did. DD is only 1 so recently but we also used a prep machine.

loopyloutoo · 14/02/2023 17:42

@Twizbe yes I have bought some - the initial bottles with the teat included are now too small for baby, they are so hungry! So I've bought the 200ml today and I'll see how we get on. It's just baby is so hard to soothe when waiting for the bottle if doing the traditional way but obviously if that is best it's what we will do

I haven't used the rapidcool but my SIL has and really rates it. If you get one, get more than one, they take 3 hours to cool back down to be used and need to be UV or cold water sterilised. For me I think I would want 3/4 of them so there wasn't TOO much pressure to clean and cool it with a newborn!

She does use the prep but has the rapidcool out and about because her little one is on a formula with no premade!

But they are safe, it's a type of metal that absorbs the heat away from the milk. I think the lids can be a bit faulty sometimes but the metal still works but you just don't have the indicator. I would like to think Nuby would replace in warranty!

I have a formula kettle that boils the water then holds it at 70 degrees. I use that to make the bottle fresh then it only takes 10 mins to cool in cold water. Still not as quick as my baby would like but better than waiting for the normal kettle to boil and cool each time

DaffodilSunshine · 14/02/2023 17:51

Bottles are also fine if kept at the back of the fridge for up to 24 hours I believe. I have a little cool bag that keeps them fridge cold for up to 6 hours. So if i know I'm going out I make them up in advance and put them in the fridge to make sure they're properly cold before putting them in the bag

MaverickGooseGoose · 14/02/2023 17:53

Can you use ready made?

Personally I would make in advance, store at the back of the fridge and heat in microwave but I'll probably get shot down for that!

I switched from a prep machine and use the Rapid Cool for every feed and love it :-) I don’t pour the formula into it though, just the boiling water and then it doesn’t need to be cleaned every time

My baby has 6oz of formula currently so I boil the kettle, fill a bottle up to 6oz mark with water, pour 4/5 oz of that water into the rapid cool (leaving an oz or so behind in the bottle), add the formula scoops to the bottle and swirl together with the hot water, then when the rapid cool has cooled the water, I add that into the bottle and swirl around - I always check the temperature on my wrist but it’s always fine using this method!

I then only sterilise the rapid cool every couple of days as it’s only having boiling water in it. Hope that makes sense and helps you… I couldn’t live without it!

I’m a big fan of the rapid cool. You add the water to the formula when it’s really hot (kills any bugs) and then cools it down very quickly. My uncle is a physicist and explained to me how it works. I don’t recall but it’s completely safe. Easy to clean and sterilise too.

Fleur405 · 14/02/2023 20:15

I don’t recall the science that is.

Highly recommend the following method. This is what I do and I have the night feed made up in less than a minute.

Use a flask like this one which tells you the temperature of the water inside when you touch the lid. Boil and fill before bed.
www.amazon.co.uk/Clemently-Insulated-Rechargeable-Temperature-Insulating/dp/B099X94Q2W/ref=asc_df_B099X94Q2W/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=542318040471&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3137314498467189380&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006864&hvtargid=pla-1415742609038&psc=1

Pre-measure some cooled boiled water and keep it in the fridge. Pre-measure the formula.

To make the night feed, mix the formula with some hot water, give it a shake and then add the cold water. This safely kills bacteria in the formula while bringing the milk to drinking temperature straight away. It does the same thing as the Perfect Prep machine but this way you know you're using hot enough water (which is the issue with the Prep machine).

I actually no longer use cooled boiled water add my daughter is nearly 10 months, I just add cold tap water. It takes a bit of practise to get the hot to cold ratio right but as a starting point, for a 210ml (7oz) feed I tend to use 90ml hot to 120ml cold.

Starsnspikes · 14/02/2023 21:52

I should add, the Nuby Rapid Cool never appealed to me because it needs sterilising after a single use. But if you're only using it for the night feed then that isn't as much of an issue. If baby needs more than one feed a night, I can imagine that being a downside to using it?

Elciekay · 09/04/2023 11:55

@DaffodilSunshine what's the cool bag you use please?

DaffodilSunshine · 09/04/2023 12:14

@Elciekay it's this one Koo-Di Ice Ice Baby Thermal Cooler | Insulated Baby Bottle Bag | Inc. 4 X Aeroplane Friendly Cooler Packs | Travel Bottle Bag | Keeps Food & Drink Cool amzn.eu/d/7Q1jz1C

Elciekay · 09/04/2023 12:26

@DaffodilSunshine thank you so much!

WeAllHaveWings · 09/04/2023 12:37

I bought my niece a nuby rapid cool set (one flask for hot water, two flasks for cooling) and a nuby UV steriliser (3 mins to sterilise) and she raves about how both of them are so easy to clean and use. I didn't believe that the milk had cooled so quickly when she showed me it in use. I think she might have a couple of bought premade formula bottles on standby just in case, but very rarely needs them.

DiDonk · 09/04/2023 12:39

You can save yourself an enormous amount of faf by just getting your baby used to room temperature milk at night, they really won't care and it makes emergency feeds when out and about much easier.
