Hi, I know all children are different but would love to know your nap schedule for your 14 month old! Timings and how long for each nap and bedtime please. I haven’t found the winning combo yet!! :( thanks x

Wake somewhere between 5am -7am

Lunchtime nap 11:30/12:00 - 2/3pm

Bedtime 6:30/7pm.

All depends on morning wake time.

NuffSaidSam · 14/02/2023 02:27

May also have a morning cat nap between 9am-9:30am if it's a 5am wake up.

JumbledE · 14/02/2023 06:07

we have a very similar routine/pattern to NuffsaidSam.

awake 6:30 (ish)
usually a catnap in the pram between 9-9:30 (ish)
nap in cot between 1-3 (ish)
bed at 7

The timings change each day but that’s roughly what we aim for.

There have been a few days when DS decides he can’t possible go to sleep in his cot in the afternoon so I bundle him into the pram again for a walk which has never failed me yet!

Pretty sure DD was down to 1 nap by then. Something like

6:30 am wake
1-2 pm nap (ish, the length varied a lot)
7:45 pm bed

mine gave up naps long before this age

Judgyjudgy · 14/02/2023 06:25

Wake up 7-7.30am (don't let them sleep past 7.15 if possible)
Nap 1 - 2.30 (don't let them sleep past 3.30)
Sleep 7.00pm

At 14m DC was having a nap at 9.30-10am also, but dropped that around 14/15m. All naps in cot.

Really? Why? At ‘long before’ 14 months they very much still need a nap. Mine was still doing the morning cat cap until 16m or so. I gradually pushed that one later until we got to one longish nap at about 12-2:30. Certainly wasn’t in a rush to go dropping any naps.

What do you mean by "why"? It isnt a decision. Its a simple fact of life. Some people just want their children to have naps and see lack of naps as a "problem" to solve, when in fact many children just dont nap. Lots of children dont need naps by this stage.

I wasnt " in a rush to drop naps" and there is no "why". It wasnt up to me, you cant force naps onto a child who doesnt need them

some children dont need them, and it cant be forced

Skinnermarink · 14/02/2023 06:51

I don’t think ‘lots’ of children don’t need naps by this age at all, sorry. The odd few maybe but it’s definitely an exception to the rule. The dropping of naps comes much later than that, developmentally.

P0mbears · 14/02/2023 06:54

At 14 months I would definitely not aim to drop naps, but work towards one nice long lunchtime nap. Any time from 12/1-2/3.

Children still need naps for a lot longer than this

My DS is way past baby stage now but I can't remember having these set times we had to be home. If you say DC has a nap in cot at 1pm does that mean you can't be out at that time? That lack of flexibility would drive me mad. My DS would just sleep in buggy or across me if we were out at a restaurant.

2crossedout1 · 14/02/2023 07:01

14m is around the age mine moved to one lunchtime nap.

Skinnermarink · 14/02/2023 07:01

Mine will nap in his pram if we’re out and about and he naps at nursery, however I do prefer his nap to be in his room in his cot ideally if we’ve not got much on, yeah. That’s the time I get to rest/chill/do stuff I need to do at home.

FT123456 · 14/02/2023 07:04

Wake-up between 6:30 - 7:00am
Nap somewhere between 11-12 (can sleep anywhere between 1-2hrs)
Bed 7pm

P0mbears · 14/02/2023 07:13

I would usually plan the lunchtime nap to be at home so I could get stuff done or just put my feet up, but if I had plans then they would just sleep in the pram or car or whatever

mummyh2016 · 14/02/2023 07:14

My DS is 13 months. Wakes between 6-7, will normally go down for a nap around 9-10. Sleeps from anything from 1-3 hours. Will then normally go back down around 3 hours after waking. Bed at 7.30, I make sure he doesn't nap past 4.30.

DragonbornMum · 14/02/2023 07:38

Wake between 7-8, asleep by 12 for around 2 hours. Bedtime was 7 or 7:30 depending on the day.

Well it sounds like you had marvellous babies. Mine have never slept in the buggy unless in constant motion. They would also wake as soon as there is a change in background noise, such as entering a restaurant. So yes they napped at home or at friends' home in the travel bed.
