Why does my baby do this

Every-time i breastfeed to sleep my 9 week old, she falls asleep quickly, only to wake up 2-5 minutes later, then continues to feed to sleep, but then wakes up again 5 minutes later etc. This happens feed/wakeup/feed/wakeup happens a few times before she eventually does fall asleep properly, or 8/10 times, completely wakes up, cries for a good 30 minutes before eventually falling asleep.

Also once asleep, i find that i have to quickly shove boob in mouth, or hold her tightly quick in order for her to stay asleep roughly every 20 minutes otherwise she starts to stir, then eventually wakes herself up. This means i can never leave her to sleep by herself, but she is always with me.

How can i encourage more independent sleep as this is getting really tiring.

If you go to sleep in a certain condition - for example with the light on - every night, if you woke up and it had suddenly been removed, you would panic as it’s different. To remedy this you would have to stop feeding to sleep, either that or just accept and go with it

She's only 9 weeks so still gets tired very easily. She'll be finding the breastfeeding comforting and dropping off before she's had much milk, so wakes up just as hungry as she was before the feed within a few minutes. The trick is to keep her awake long enough to get a good amount of milk into her - I used to tickle my DD's feet or play with her hands to keep her awake long enough. It's a painful game for you, but this stage won't last forever. Good luck!

I went through that with all of my sons. I used to undress them little by little to make them a tiny bit cooler and the movement sometimes helped keep them awake. I also did the tickle the feet trick,
