Respiratory Virus - when is it serious?

So I've seen in the news all this stuff about diseases spreading in infants like strep B and RSV and it's made me totally paranoid.

ds is 14 weeks old and has his first virus. It's like a cold - he's really snuffly, has a cough (though isn't coughing loads) and has a bit of a temperature. He's also generally a bit sad and needs lots of cuddles. I'm hoping it will pass in a few days.

My question is - if it becomes serious, like he's struggling to breathe, will that be obvious? This is my first child so I don't know what to look out for.

Download the baby check app by the Lullaby Trust as it’s very helpful. My son was hospitalised with RSV - it was pretty obvious to us that his breathing wasn’t normal.

DD1 had to go to hospital a few times with breathing difficulties as a baby and toddler. We took her to A&E if she was having difficulty with her breathing. If her breathing rate got very fast (60 breaths a minutes) or her chest was recessing under her ribs. Also if her lips turned blue (999 for that one). You should also get medical help if a fever won't go down with paracetamol or it's over a certain temperature and baby is under a certain age (can't remember the numbers). DD1 had suspected asthma and had inhalers. She grew out of it. DD2 hasn't had any breathing issues even though she's has croup, covid, flu etc.
