7 months weaning milk question?

DS is 7 and a half months. Has been eating solids for about 6/7 weeks now (mixture purée, mashed and finger foods). In the last week or so I feel like he’s finishing off everything I’m giving him so it’s going well so far and he seems to be enjoying his food.

Question is.. when should the milk routine change or reduce? He does drink a lot (he’s a big baby on 98th centile) but I don’t feel like he is taking much less compared to how much food he’s now taking in. He normally has his bottle an hour or so after food. Eg breakfast 9am. Bottle 10 ish. Lunch 12. Bottle 1 ish.

should I maybe combine them and give him a bottle straight after, he might drink less as he will be a bit fuller but still only 3/4 hours til the next meal. The only bottle he seems to be a little less interested in is the one after tea where we have started doing 5/6oz whereas the others are 8oz. 9oz before bed. Also along with where his naps seem to fall there seems to be something every hour .. meal, bottle, nap. Makes it hard to do things during the day, eg no good time to take him swimming as you know he’ll want his lunch, bottle or a nap, there’s always something. This is why I’m thinking of combining meals and bottles. First time mum - any experiences or advice would be appreciated!

My daughter milk intake didn't reduce till about 11 months. Everywhere on the internet says that when they eat solid, they will need less milk but it wasn't the case with mine. Still drank exactly the same amount plus had all the food.

Changeing from formula to cows milk went surprisingly easy from 11-12 months, and that is when she started to drop the milk. Now she has two bottle a day rather than 6-7like before.

Following as am in the same situation with my DD. She hasn’t reduced her milk intake yet and I’m finding it hard to fit in 5 bottles, 3 naps and 2 meals and still find time to go out.

You should give food, half an hour to an hour after milk.

To me this doesn’t make sense though as won’t they just be full up on milk? They wouldn’t take to 3 meals a day if they had a bottle of milk beforehand - I have read this tbf but also read the opposite. The internet is very conflicting.

Yeah I think this could work - maybe in a bottle still he’s getting used to a cup and he bites it and it goes all over so we’re still practising with that 🤣

My little girl is 7.5 months and she is having 4 x 7oz bottles a day and some food. I find if I feed her then offer her bottle straight after she usually takes 2/3oz less than usual but then an hour later wants the rest. So far she is having lumpy purees/ porridge/ finger sticks etc but not full meals just a few tablespoons each mealtime.

Can I ask, how much milk you feed your baby?

I currently give my girl 4 x 7oz with her last feed being around 7.30pm she used to go overnight without a feed (dropped it around 5 months) but recently she is waking at 4am wanting to play and eventually cries and I am giving her an additional 7oz bottle and she seems hungry as takes it all so according to back of the milk tin she is now having too much formula. She on the 25th percentile so she can take it, but I just don't know if I should be upping her daytime bottles to more so she gets fuller and doesn't wake for an overnight feed.

So he has 8oz bottles 5 times a day but to be fair he doesn’t always drink all of them. Actually the last bottle we do him 9oz. Sometimes he has 6/7 oz as leaves some.

cant believe you’ve said that as my son has been doing the exact same thing at 4am!!! I do often put the dummy in and ignore him and he will go back to sleep. He’s not in his own room yet due to the dummy. If he doesn’t go back I’ll give him a bottle around 5am but he will have breakfast at 9 and still go til 10 ish for the next one and follow the same routine.

my DS seems to have always had more formula than they recommend. Isn’t it they shouldn’t exceed 32 or 35 oz or something. Well he often has but again he is 98th centile so ive just followed him. I wouldn’t be upping his feeds as he doesn’t always drink it all but in your case why not, in the past I noticed every time we upped the oz he dropped a feed which is when he eventually went to going through without one. Or why don’t you try a bigger bottle before bed. Now I’m starting to wonder if I should be giving more before bed but 9oz already seems a lot 🤣

At this age milk should providing the vast majority of their nutrition.
