Ryanair and pram

Hello! Has anyone travelled Ryanair with a baby? Their guidance says we can take a buggy / pushchair. My baby will still be in the bassinet! (Which is obviously sort of a two part pram as the bassinet is detachable from the wheels). Does anyone know that this is ok? I’ll try and call Ryanair as well obviously but was keen to see if anyone had any experience!

Yes that should be fine. They will give you 2 stickers, one for each part. You can either give the pram at the luggage drop off or keep it until boarding ( be mindful you may need to carry it down the steps as on the last bit the lift is not always available).

The stickers or tags you need are at baggage drop, i.e. before security, just so you're aware!

And I believe that would count as two items (bassinet plus frame) which is the max they allow free anyway.

Thank you!!

Yes good point about checking whether it will count as two items (as I had been hoping to take the car seat as my second item!). I’ll check. Thanks.

Personally I'd look into getting a smaller folding buggy that lies flat for travel if you can afford it. They don't treat them with much respect when putting them on the plane and they get filthy. Our cheap holiday buggy has probably been my best buy.

Also recommend a sling. While you often leave your buggy at the plane when you're flying out you don't normally get it back till baggage claim (unless you ask for it) when you land and some airports are massive. Also much easier if you have to go up plane stairs if baby is safe and secure on you.

We put our buggy into a travel bag when it was in 2 parts, they never checked it and it meant that we could also bring the car seat. The travel bags are expensive but worth the money as they also protect them from getting too bashed. Like pp, we then used a sling in the airport.

Hi!

I'm in the same situation, will be traveling with a <6m baby, so need the bassinet.

Our normal pushchair is like this and way too expensive to be thrown around Ryanair but also is massive.

I think some previous posters forget about babies needing a bassinet.

We have decided to buy a cheap one that's much smaller too. We aren't bringing a car seat or a travel cot, so for us it's fine if it counts as 2 items. I would message them in the Facebook Messenger Chat - always very responsive

I wouldn't take a nice travel system on a plane! Buy a cheaper stroller that lies flat for baby that doesn't matter if it gets trashed. It folds down so is usually durable, i would hate to think what state a bassinet would come back to you in

And yes to a sliblng/carrier as you don't get the stroller/pushchair back until baggage reclaim

Plenty of strollers lie flat so suitable for babies under 6 months, you don't need a travel system/bassinet

I agree with getting a cheaper one to take on flights. They do not handle them well, if my broken wheelchair is anything to go by.

Thanks all! Really helpful. I will take a look

How did you get on? Interested as flying in December with them with my 4 month old and also have travel system and want to take car seat

Nepopcorn · 05/11/2023 18:14

I travelled with my 4 mo old and our bugaboo fox on a budget airline. We checked in the bassinet as one piece of luggage in a pram travel bag then took the car seat attached to the pram base to the plane door, folded up the base and put it all in another pram travel bag. When they asked at check in I just got them to put the tag on the bag

Gosh it’s crazy what I forget! We flew in May time and we decided in the end to take both the bassinet part of our pram plus the 6m + seat of our travel system. So I think we collapsed our pram with the 6m + seat as item one, and then put the bassinet item in a travel bag as item two. So I don’t think we ever got round to working out if bassinet & pram base counted as one or two separate things - sorry. We left the car seat at home in the end and hired one. The only thing I’d say is no one actually checked what was in our travel bag so we could have put anything in there on top of the bassinet. Hope this helps although I’m not sure it does!

I asked Ryanair about this today and they said our Bugaboo Dragonfly travel system (pram inc bassinet) would count as 1 item, meaning we can also take a car seat or travel cot.
I’m still a bit nervous that they might try to screw us at the airport, but I’ve taken screenshots of the convo in case needed!
