Desperate for advice on fussy baby

I currently have a 3 month old who has made a deal with the devil to terrorise me all day and night… she seems to cry constantly unless she is feeding or asleep, any time I put her down on her mat to play she cries, anyone else holding her seems to trigger her too.
At night she will take a good amount of milk, fall asleep and I will put her in her cot then 15/20 mins later she is wide awake crying, she screams hysterically, rejecting all milk and no obvious reason to it then suddenly after a while just takes more milk and falls asleep. She will sleep 4/5 hours then wakes during the night for a feed but cries whenever I put her back in her cot and only wants to sleep on me from that time until morning.

I was so lucky with my first as she slept through the night by 5 weeks, never cried much or had any issues feeding/sleeping and was always a really happy baby.

is this a normal thing or should I be concerned? Any advice would be great

It could be normal baby behaviour but it might be worth getting Tongue Tie ruled out. My DS was just like this and it turned out to be TT

Have you tried sleeping with the cot sheets for a couple of nights so they smell the same as the bed too?

It sounds like reflux, try propping her head end up a little (eg a couple of paperbacks under the head end of her cot).

Agree with pp, sounds like reflux and what my daughter was like. Also agree with the tongue tie assessment and speak to your gp or hv for advice too.

How are things this morning @Soon2bemumoftwo?

Have you tried gripe water for wind? Might explain why she doesn't like to be lying down

Twizbe · 07/02/2023 07:44

How are you feeding?

It could well be reflux and raising one end of her mattress could help a lot.

She was up every hour last night crying hysterically a couple of times before finally taking some milk and going back to sleep. The health visitor did mention a tongue tie when she was first born but never discussed it more than a passing comment, can this impact bottle fed babies?

If bottle feeding my guess would be reflux.

Try paced feeding the bottles. It will slow down how much she has giving her more time to process the milk.

The doctor can also give you gaviscon to help.

I agree bout the reflux, my now four month old did this for the first two months of her life and we ended up going to the hospital as there wasn't a moment when she was awake that she wasn't crying, turned out she had GORD and esophogitis as a result of the GORD so was in pain every time she swallowed or regurgitated, yet she wanted the milk. They have us gaviscon for the reflux and a medication for the esophagitis and within 2 weeks she was smiling away during the day when she was awake
