Tips for dummy weaning

Hi everyone,

My DS is 6 nearly 7 months and obsessed with his dummy. He will be going into his own room shortly and need tips to try wean off his dummy as he wakes up wanting it putting in. He won't settle without his dummy and often wants it through the day, don't know if it's just habit now or whether it helps with teething.

Does anyone have any tips on how to wean him off of it without going cold turkey??

I don’t think that I’d be brave enough to mess with sleep at this age especially when by 7 months almost all babies can replace it themselves. I’d just chuck 10 in the cot and hopefully enjoy a restful night for you all! And be strict about it being for sleep time only. Get a Sophie La Giraffe or other chew toy for teething.

Sorry I know not what you asked though so feel free to ignore!

Agree with pp, own room and no dummy are two massive things for a baby.

Buy glow in the dark ones, several, scatter round the cot. They do learn to pop them back in and when that happens it's a game changer.

If he's teething the dummy with deffo be bringing him comfort.

If you want to reduce it maybe then just put it away and occupy him with something. But they are a great sleep aid tbh.
