4 yo speech

Does your 4 yo say random stuff when they are stuck not knowing how to answer? Ds is nearly 4 (4 in May) and is a bit behind in speech but answers questions, asks questions, tells me about his day and things he does at nursery and describes situations however when he is is stuck in answering a question where he can't elaborate due to less vocabulary, he makes stuff up. For instance "why did you put your legos in the bin?" He will respond " because... because the monsters came and took the Christmas tree". 🧐 or he will talk to me about something or describe how cold he is then he will say something so random at the end like "because the moon is about to go to bed". Was just wondering if this is normal?

It is for some children they just have wild imaginations and should be celebrated - it’s not lying just a great kid with amazing imagination which I wish schools would embrace!

My 3.5 year old does something similar. It's usually when he's either embarrassed or really excited.
In the pharmacy the other day the lady said hello to him and he started running in small circles talking something about a silly moose and the moon, not sure what it was all about. But he talks very well the rest of the time so I'm not worried.
The extent of his imagination is extraordinary sometimes.

Yes, DS' favourite response is that sea monsters took it/moved it/ made the mess. It's when he knows the answer is that he did something he shouldn't have or hasn't done something I've asked eg I'm just going to make lunch can you clear the toys from the floor , come back he's been playing not tidying. Why are there still toys on the floor DS? Oh mummy I think it must've been the sea monsters

Oh that's so reassuring to hear and so sweet at the same time. I've no experience with this age group and a first time mum so I thought whether it's related to speech delay or something else but yes I agree, I hope the schools they go to will embrace their imagination. He does lie sometimes saying his friend made the mess knowing that his friend has never stepped foot in our house but it's the same as @Scramble1805 where he will talk about a silly something then the monster came and then the snails ran faster and faster.
