Orange blossom water for a baby?

My mum is visiting and has brought some orange blossom water and is trying to convince me to give it to my 6 month old baby. She is saying it will help him sleep and is a well known remedy for babies and that I should do some research. I can’t find anything reputable online to back up her statement and have never heard of it!

I have told her thank you but I won’t be giving it to my baby so she should take it home as it would be a shame to waste it.

AIBU? Has anyone heard of orange blossom water as a remedy for babies?!

remedy for what?

just say thanks and pretend to give it like everyone else does when their mother suggests mad shit.
’will we give her a cappuccino?’ (the 10 month old) yes, great idea mam, thanks.

Well my baby doesn’t sleep very well day or night time, so she is claiming it’s a sleep remedy for baby. She says it’s harmless as it’s herbal/homeopathic so it’s worth a try. I think it’s a mad suggestion and an happy to stick to my guns on it. Just curious if it is genuinely a well known remedy though.

A cappuccino for the 10 month old 🤣🤣🤣🤣 well some places do a babyccino I’ve seen advertised but I’m not quite sure what they are 🤔

Nothing that was sealed and through a recognised food safety certification process would be going within a mile of any child of mine.

Irish mammies used to give whisky for teething at least the alcohol would kill bacteria.

I've heard it's used as a remedy for colic and trapped wind in children and babies. I have no experience of using it, but check the dosage carefully and give it a go (if your baby has wind, that is!).

I'd just say 'oh wonderful, thanks mum! I'll be sure to try that out next time the shit hits the fan'. Then say a week later that it worked a treat, having binned it as soon as she left the house. Not rocket science, is it? Saves her feelings and an argument.

No, it’s not rocket science at all. Just curious if anyone else had heard of it, that’s all!

A babyccino is frothy milk. Sometimes with chocolate sprinkles on top.

dementedpixie · 04/02/2023 22:06

Googling suggests you can use it as a skin toner and also add it to bath water so you don't have to give it to your baby

Melassa · 04/02/2023 22:07

It’s used as a sedative and to alleviate tummy problems and indigestion or colic. You can even put a few drops in bath water to aid sleep. I used to give it to my then toddler, a few drops diluted in warm water, as a goodnight drink.

it’s perfectly safe and wholesome, it’s used for adults and children alike in Lebanon and parts of North Africa. If you don’t want your baby to
ingest it then try a few drops in bath water.

A tablespoon of orange flower water with some hot water is used in the Lebanon for tummy issues and to relax and orange blossom tisane for a good night's sleep.

Orange flower water is used in bath water in the Middle East to soothe babies.

I hate this modern kneejerk tendency to automatically shit on your mothers as dumb women who don't know jackshit. They aren't stupid just because they're old, you know?

Yes, but my mum suggested that baby drinks it, not just in the bath water. My baby is breast fed so has only drank breast milk for 6 months and just now started small amounts of water with his solids. So yeah, my ‘kneejerk’ reaction is to make sure I’m not making my baby drink something that may not be great for him 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am genuinely interested to hear from people that have given it to their babies as a drink though as I’ve never heard of it.
