6 month old sharp/high pitched wheeze

DD will be six months old next week. She is our first baby to come home (sadly lost our first born at 33 weeks), so everything is very new to us.
Before Christmas she started making this high pitched wheezing inhaling sound. It almost sounds like she's suddenly gasping for breath. It was mostly when she was excited or upset. We asked the health visitor about it (she actually made the noise whilst we were there), and she said it's really common and a lot of babies make that noise and it usually stops by age 1.
It actually seemed to stop suddenly probably 3 or so weeks ago, and to be honest I'd forgotten all about it. However, yesterday evening she started making the noise again and has been doing it loads today. Again, it's when she's happy/excited or when she's getting upset and crying, or sometimes when she's just 'chatting' and gurgling to herself. It seems to happen more when she's on her back too. She doesn't make it whilst she's asleep, and there's no signs that she's struggling to breathe i.e. no sucking in at the ribs or nostrils flaring. I'm going to take her to the doctor's on Monday now as it's making me quite anxious when I hear it, but has anyone else had their little one make this sound?

I'm not sure if it's related, but she's also started having a complete meltdown when going to sleep. We have to rock her to sleep and she is becoming really distressed and again making the wheezing/screeching sound.
Sorry for the long post, just really looking to hear if anyone else has had anything similar. Thank you 🙂

My little one has done this and still does at 10 months. Usually when she is overstimulated (excited or upset) but also when wind blows in her face outside etc. I was worried for such a long time because I’d not heard any other babies doing it but she laughs when doing it too so I think it’s a case of her knowing it’s a funny sound she can make so she keeps doing it 🤦🏻‍♀️She really has a wide range of noises that she makes unlike any other babies I have heard. I’m just accepting it’s one of her quirks!
I understand you being anxious and wanting to get her checked but I’m sure it’s totally harmless ☺️

@SLA2022 thank you so much for your help 😊
I did wonder if it was just that she'd realised she can make the sound and do not she enjoys doing it! I think It's because it kind of surprises me everytime she does it because it just doesn't sound like a noise she should be making 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just by reading this, I realised my daughter done this. She started about about 6 months and soon grew out of it. Her eyes would go big when she would do it. It would scare her dad sillyGrin I think it's just one of those things that they realise they can do. Nothing to worry about, especially if health visitor said it's common. It is!
