Taking nappy off… wits end

DD is almost 4 and still wears a nappy at night and for poo’s. Over the past few weeks she has been trying to take her nappy off at night. We haven’t switched brands and the nappies we use are the same type we have used for years. At first I didn’t mind too much I would just change her into a fresh one but when I put her to bed I can see her trying to take it off on the monitor. We have reverted back to tab nappies which made it more difficult for her but now she knows how to get them off. She definitely needs the nappies as when she wakes up with a nappy still on they are very full.

Can you let her take it off and let her see what happens? At 4 natural consequences might work in your favour. Put a puppy pad under the sheet

Can you put it on once she’s asleep? By 4 they often sleep very deeply.

I say this for info rather than judgement - but does she have any additional needs? As that may help to figure out what the best way forwards would be.
We eventually kicked nighttime nappies by ditching the duvet and putting a waterproof sheet (2, actually) on the bed, as it turned out that the feeling of wet on DC's body woke them, and helped them to notice when they needed to go in the night. We also had a potty on another waterproof groundsheet in their room so that it was right there when they needed to go.
We also limited drinks from 90 mins before bedtime, and it was a rule that they at least sat on the toilet and tried before bedtime, just in case there was anything there that they weren't getting the signals for.

We have been doing this, it works fine and she sleeps through me putting a nappy on her but if she wakes up it will come off

All in one pajamas put on backwards so the zips behind them should stop in. Though at 4 (if no additional needs) I'd let them try a few nights without it. If you get a few waterproof sheets you can layer up the mattress with alternativewaterproofand normal sheet, then just strip off the top 2 layers if they have an accident, so no one needs to be awake long in the night.

When Dts went through a phase of taking their nappies off I duct taped over the tabs.
