nanny rates for Oxfordshire

hello, looking into a nanny for the first time for our two children (2.5 and 4).
I’ve no clue what the average hourly rate should be - but we’ve been quoted £20p/hr net, or £18p/hr if they bring their 1yo with them.
Looking at a salary converter that looks to be about £2,650 p/m gross for 3 days a week, which has quite surprised me.
any advice as to whether this is a lot / to be expected? Many thanks

I think £20ph net sounds very high. I'm in London and the rates are around £15ph net for an experienced nanny. A little bit less if you'll take a younger/less experienced nanny.

They're are probably fewer nannies in Oxfordshire though so maybe they can charge a premium? Your best bet is to check with local agencies or look at childcare.co.uk for your area and see. Alternatively, advertise the job at a rate you think is fair and see who applies.

Thanks NuffSaidSam. She does have a lot of experience, but I would’ve thought bringing her own child would be more than £2/hr cheaper than usual rate.
min your experience do nannies charge more for 2+ children or same rate p/hr regardless?

I’ve looked on childcare and the suggested rates seem more aligned with what you’ve said. Mostly say “From x/hr” though so hard to gauge

That does sound very high. I work in Yorkshire - so probably slightly lower rates, £12-£16 per hour GROSS is the norm. (Always talk about rates in terms of gross, not net, like you would with any other form of employment.)

We are in London and pay ours £14 p/h gross with her child.

That was on the basis of an assumed 25% reduction, so would be expecting to pay £18-19/hr gross.

thanks. Yes I’ve asked for a gross rate but she hasn’t responded on that, difficulty is I can see how much she was paid from prior contract for same hours and it seemed to be aligned to 15 gross, but only 1 child

Thanks @ParentsTrapped , yea I thought the reduction for bringing their child would be more in line with what you’ve said
