Cot/bed dilemma ...

So we have a lovely cot. Currently with one side off and a sheet to fill the gap so it's nicely next to our bed like an extension. Baby is nearly 8 months and absolutely love how this has been working for us.

Problem - Baby is crawling and during the night ending up in all sorts of places on the bed. Our bed.

Urgh - I really don't want to put the last side up really because this has resulted in great sleep for all of us after months of 0 sleep. I dont mind him coming into our bed at all during the night but it's not really safe now. Worried he will get to the end of the bed and fall off.
No interest in him being in his own room yet - not that there is anythong wrong with that at his age but personal choice

Does anything exist to make this safer? Thoughts??

Agree with making your bed into a floor bed. You can get lovely purpose built floor beds (as apparently you're not meant to just have your mattress straight on the floor due to air flow) but IKEA sell just the slats which you can put your mattress on, if you don't want to buy a more expensive floor bed (which to me looks just like flats plus short sides to encase your mattress).

Yep floor bed is the only way.

My only other suggestion is lots of practise during the day for LO to get off the bed safely.

We have a really high super king divan, it probably is above my hip when standing and my son can safely get down off it by shuffling backwards then holding on and dropping to the floor on his feet.

He has never moved so far down the bed that he would fall out the bottom when we co slept though

I use the bed guards from safetots for the sides. Never had an issue with crawling to the foot of the bed
