Nappy changing tips - baby on the move!

7 nearly 8 month old is crawling. And rolling. Fast...!

Nappy change has become a real nightmare. Put him down and within SECONDS he has rolled away and speed crawled half away across the living room.

Sounds silly but any tips...? Took me 20 minutes and one hugely pissed on carpet because I couldn't get one nappy off and one nappy on before he was half way across the room.

It's so annoying!

Distraction in the form of food or a toy to play with - anything with lights. Belly raspberries to make them laugh.

Collect a basket of toys, good ones, that only come out at changing times.

I hand mine the wet wipes or my phone to hold. Some days are worse than others. I also change her on the floor now to ensure she doesn't fall off anything while she's wriggling. If I can get her changed without her sticking her foot in poo it's a good day.
I find reusable nappies are easier with wiggly babies because you just have to line up the poppers and you can fasten them up while the baby is crawling away.

Confine him using your legs. Trousers off and straight over his face for a game of peekaboo. Combination of hold him still and peekaboo/raspberries/funny faces to keep him happy about being confined.

To be clear, his trousers off, not yours!

  • Change them in a corner so its harder for them to escape
  • you may find nappy pants easier (rip the perforated sides to take them off for poo!)
  • distraction
  • use your legs to pin them

Can he stand holding on ? If so standing nappy change.

StrawberryAnnie · 02/02/2023 17:36

Do you lay the fresh nappy out first and put him on it? This can be a quick way to change wriggly babies -hold the baby’s legs up and clean them , whip off the old nappy, fasten new one.

I never got the hang of standing nappy changes! Plus there were a few incidents that involved him jumping into a nice warm pool of urine mere seconds before he was about to get into bed 🫠

Lots of tummy kisses with raspberries to make him giggle, plus giving him the nappy to hold

New nappy under the bum before removing the old one, then it's there to be speedily fastened or to catch any accidents. 😆

There's that trick with rolling the vest up and over the arms, pinning them to the chest.....however I'm not sure that would work with an 8 month old 😋

Thanks all. Will give these all a try! He just escaped with a pooey bump which is now all across my floor. His dad can sort that out....
