Milk coming in

Wondering if anyone has any advice for helping milk to come in. Got a feeding schedule for baby while my breast milk hopefully comes in, any advice to speed it along apart from pumping and general good health?

How many days has it been?

There's not really any magic way - eat plenty and drink plenty, lots of skin to skin!

Sleep, oats, about 4l of water a day and as much skin to skin as you can do.

Skin to skin and keep baby on the breast as much as you possibly can! Stay in bed with baby as much as you realistically can relaxing and doing skin to skin (appreciate that’s not easy if you have older children). Eat and drink loads.

Good luck, it can be tricky sometimes, but I breastfed my DD and am currently breastfeeding my DS and love it!

The only way to get it going is put baby to breast as much as possible. No schedules. If baby moves put them on the breast.

If baby moves put them on the breast.

This! Lots and lots of skin to skin will help too

Agree, I would have baby on the breast rather than pumping .

Hey. When baby was due a feed, I put her on me first and then she would have a bottle if she didnt feed for long (split seconds at the beginning) I then pumped just to keep that feeding feeling going.

Currently up feeding now and she is almost 3 months - supply is great.

Thank you for sharing that makes me feel much better and it's the same feeding programme we are on now. Milk volume improving slowly each time I express. Lots of skin to skin and he's feeding off my breast each time even if it's short lived. Hopefully getting there

Not pumping.

Baby on breast. Baby on skin.
Holding baby close and thinking about wanting to nourish her/him.

It's psychological as well as physiological, I think.

This. It'll happen. And meanwhile baby is getting amazing colostrum.

Don't waste money on lactation cookies, teas etc. Nothing you eat or drink makes any difference. But your comfort helps you relax, so eat what you like and make sure you're hydrated.

Good luck!

When were you able to move from bottle to just breast? Currently my partner does the night shift with a bottle, did you do feed throughout the night too?

I'd recommend feeding the baby directly from the breast at night at least for the first few weeks - your body makes more milk at night.
