How to make bath time safe?

My baby is almost 10 months and she uses one of these baby baths... however lately she has taken to trying to climb out of the baby bath which is making bath time fun. I'm thinking it's time for her to go in the big girl bath however I'm nervous about her slipping, falling under the water etc.
Anyone have any tips for making bath time safe?
Thank you

She'll be fine, just stay with her. I used little sucker pads on the bottom of the bath to give grip.

ch99 · 01/02/2023 17:34

@bigbillybobhowler Yh I was thinking about getting one of those, because I did bath her in the big bath when we had that hot summer to keep her cool and she kept slipping. Thank you

Get a bath seat. I got mine for £5 on Facebook marketplace.

What about a bath seat like this that sticks to the bottom of the big tub? Or just a grippy bath mat and keep it really shallow.

Might not be practical in your situation but from about 6 months me or DH used to bath with DD, until she was old enough to sit by herself in the big bath. After that I’d just not fill it too full, try to discourage her from flinging herself about too much and obviously stayed in the room at all times.

You need a bath mat. You also need to assume that she will slip under and be close enough to pull her out.
It’s a great stage though, you can spend ages in the bath and give her things to play with.
Or just get in yourself.

Bath mat - about a fiver in the supermarket.

Munchkin did these super cute colour changing spots as sucker pads, you could place them how you wanted, on the floor of bath and around the side.

My baby is 10 months old today! She’s just been in a regular bath for months and months. Just watch her, that’s all. You can keep a hand on her etc. We recently tell her not to crawl or stand up but she learns through mistakes sometimes. She generally just sits still as she has toys which interest her. It’s fine. In fact it’s fun! She loves bathtime.

PuttingDownRoots · 01/02/2023 18:08

Don't fill the bath too deep. They can splash around in 3-4 inches of water.

ch99 · 01/02/2023 18:12

I've never seen those bath seats before, they look good,

Thank you for all the suggestions will definitely get a bath mat

10 months! I’m amazed she still fits in a tiny baby bath. We have a non slip mat that covers the whole bottom of the bath, it’s from Amazon and was about a tenner. That and being there obviously are all you need.

PinkButtercups · 01/02/2023 18:15

My son went into the bath seat at 6 months as he could sit unaided at 5 months. Those bath seats are fine and I didn't like bathing him without the seat until he was bit older.

PinkButtercups · 01/02/2023 18:16

Also obviously make sure the child is never left unattende.

PinkButtercups · 01/02/2023 18:17

Ignore my spelling mistakes 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Saltywalruss · 01/02/2023 18:33

They are good, but if the suckers come undone your baby will fall backwards or forwards into the water with her legs stuck. Just be aware you still have to supervise like you would if she wasn't in a seat.

Saltywalruss · 01/02/2023 18:34

Meant to quote the OP's post. I was talking about the bathseats .

WeWereInParis · 01/02/2023 18:38

My DD is 8 months and can sit just fine on a bath mat in the bath. Obviously we always stay right there next to her, but she's never slipped.

PurBal · 01/02/2023 18:40

DS was sitting in the bath unaided at 6 months… we got a bath mat when he started pulling to stand.

ch99 · 01/02/2023 18:43

@BuffaloCauliflower she still fits into 3-6 clothes lol! She's small but chubby

I tried all sorts of toddler bath seats, but once they could sit, it was much much easier to just put down an old-fashioned full coverage sucker mat! My bath needed two, with one rounded end cut of each so they met in the middle!

The sucker pads looked fab, but there's a lot of slippy bath in and around them. I preferred a substantial shower mat (well, two) in the bath.

Flowerfairy101 · 01/02/2023 18:46

If you're really worried about using the big bath you could always get a toddler bath, basically a big baby bath. We had one when we only had a shower in our house .

Cantbelievethis1 · 01/02/2023 18:46

The munchkin bath mat. We had that baby bath until Ds was 4 months but he's a big boy so we got the seat and he's now to heavy for that so we're now using the munchkin mat although he still tries to drown himself many times so bath time is still very interesting x
