we were thinking of getting the quinny zapp plus a maxi cosi. there is a deal on them and it looks like an all round ok cost, plus we have quite a small flat and it doesnt look enormous.

the sales assistant pointed out that the pushchair bit doesnt recline. is this a prob? does is basically mean that, when baby has grown up enough to use it as pushchair, she wont be able to lie back and sleep?

all opinions and experiences welcome

cheers

I found the Urban Detour buggy from Mothercare the best. It is a travel system so you get the car seat with it. It reclines right back and has loads of space underneath. Is a bit heavy weight though. But was good for me because I walk everywhere. As DD got older I got a McClaren Quest, which is ok but will probably need to replace it before she is finished needing a buggy. Havent found it particularly hard wearing.

i had zapp and maxi cosi and it was awful - tipped over spontaneously 4 times with baby in it.Imo avoid zapp rickety, unstable, wheels shake, no basket. i hated it

weeonion as you've carried from birth is it only as dd has got older that she sleeps better in the buggy or has she always been like that?

nappy - it is just more recently - from about 6 mths. When she was smaller - she would sleep away for ages but now - she seems to be too interested to settle down. I am trying back carries with her at the moment and this is proving worse!

cheap and lightweight and lies almost flat - mclaren techno
or how about icandy cherry has carry cot option and maxicosi car seat clips into it
good luck!

if i am going out for only part of the day and i don't want ds to sleep anyway i take him in the carrier but if we are going out for a whole day and i want him to have a nap i take both the buggy and the sling. when he is awake he uses the sling but when he is tired he is able to sleep in his buggy. i like to use the buggy as my own personal shopping trolley when he isn't in it

Honestly, don't get a pram at all if you're on public transport and a small flat. Get a couple of decent slings and a carseat if you have to use a car (best performing in crash tests is the larger Britax one, followed by the Maxi Cosi). Choose a carseat which goes up to 13kgs and use it till then as it's safest, and also most convenient if you're going to need to lug it up and down stairs from the flat.

Slings I have used and liked include the Kari-Me (my choice for a newborn) and the Ergo (but didn't have it as a newborn, so no exp. of the newborn insert).

Don't bother with a Bjorn. For a brief while they're very suitable, but they're pretty short lived and lots of people find them kidney-stranglingly uncomfortable. The hip problems thing is not proven, but I certainly don't think it looks the most ideal of positions for a child.

When LO is about six months old, you'll either be completely addicted to the freedom and ease of slings (I am, haven't used a pram since DS was 4 months old and I realised it wasn't illegal to go out without one ) or you might want a small umbrella fold stroller, which you can get for a tenner in Woolworths. (Or actually someone you know will probably give you one)

DS is now 2.3 and ditching the pram was the best move I ever made.

You do not need to make a decision on a pushchair now. There is nothing to stop you looking and decided which one you want should you need one. But don't buy it.
Wait til you have given the sling a try and if you don't get on with it send dh out to get the pushchair.

nappyaddict · 08/02/2008 14:46

i am thinking if you have a small flat a pushchair with a carrycot might be ideal cos you can use that for the baby to sleep in aswell for the first 6 months instead of trying to squeeze a cot in your room.

also if you need to bump it up and downstairs to save waking a sleeping baby something with big wheels would be good. i can recommend the icoo peak 3, fisher price kuji (in the argos book), traxx ecuador, mutsy, mamas and papas skate or ziko herbie. all of these lie flat so can be used from birth.
