we were thinking of getting the quinny zapp plus a maxi cosi. there is a deal on them and it looks like an all round ok cost, plus we have quite a small flat and it doesnt look enormous.

the sales assistant pointed out that the pushchair bit doesnt recline. is this a prob? does is basically mean that, when baby has grown up enough to use it as pushchair, she wont be able to lie back and sleep?

all opinions and experiences welcome

cheers

Is this for a newborn baby? Only reason I ask is that newborns should lie flat if possible, and also that it is difficult to get them to 'sit' up in a pushchair so you will be using the car seat to start off with.

If you were going on a long car journey and then taking the baby out of the car and putting the car seat on to the zapp base, the baby could be in the Maxi Cosi for a few hours. This isn't recommended by car seat manufacturers - think they say that a newborn shouldn't be in the car seat for longer than an hour at any one time.

Anyway, apologise for rambling but something that goes flat is better for small babies imo.

hiya - i wouldn't get a zapp for a newborn as they need to recline and these don't, try and choose something with a 5 point recline.

llareggub · 06/02/2008 22:33

I really would not get a Zapp as a first pram. I have one, my son is 15 months old, and he still hasn't really been in it much. It doesn't look that comfortable to be honest. I have a Quinny Buzz which does recline but he is looking a bit big for it now.

I'd look for something other than the Zapp if I were you. The maxi cosi car seat it great, though.

I think if your looking for a small travel system you would be better off with a mamas and papas aria travel system, there £179.99 in argos and come with everything including the car seat base that stays in the car (if you have a car) there so small and they lie flat for a newborn aswell

MrsDandOllie · 07/02/2008 21:05

I definitely would not go for a Zapp as your only pram with a newborn. I used to have one as a 2nd pram (small stroller to put in car) and it wasnt great even just as a 2nd pram!
You will ONLY be able to have the baby in the car seat for about 6 months every time you go out in the pram and that will be uncomfortable as baby gets bigger plus will mean going against the guidelines for how long they should stay in car seat.
Plus its quite a flimsy pushchair, you cant hang anything on the handles and has no shopping basket so not even space to keep your raincover etc.
I def would not recommend it!

Wendyjayb · 07/02/2008 21:10

I wouldn't go for a zapp as a first pram. Bubs will need to be as flat as possible when tiny and when he/she is older they don;t recline and always look so uncomfortable.
My ds is 2 and still naps in his buggy

Have a look at the iCandy models - they're very good and take the maxi cosi car seat, but they're smaller than the Quinny Buzz (which is a pig to get round the shops!)

preggersagain · 08/02/2008 10:32

i have zapp's for my maxi-cosi seats but tbh it is purely to get one of the twins out of the car still in car seat hopefully still sleeping- take older kids into school then transfer back into car etc. Wouldn't use it full time- also dh has a real problem with the whole zapp mechanism and has nearly lost a finger a couple of times They are not our main prams.

You need a buggy that can lay flat from birth and if there is a compatible car seat then bonus!

Doormouse · 08/02/2008 12:06

I've just taken delivery of a Petite Star Zia-it's just like a Zapp but it reclines flat for naps. Have only wheeled it round the house so far but it's really light and folds up very small. It's not a travel system, but I don't think it's good for a newborns spine to be in a car seat for too long?? Anyhow, the Zia was less than £100 so is cheaper than a Zapp too!

katie5004 · 08/02/2008 13:01

hi, i have had a zap since my son was about8 months old. yes it doesnt recline so maybe another pram would be more comfortable, but i loved mine, its realy light, folds up realy small if you havent got much space and it looks noce aswel. My son still sleeps in it.I have also changed the fabrics as they were realy grubby so looks like a new pram now.

jojosmaman · 08/02/2008 13:30

I wouldnt recommend this as a first borns pram as it others have mentioned, the baby has to go in the car seat until they are six months and its not ideal for long strolls out. I got a M and P pliko which was pricey but it folds up quite neatly. It can be a pram (lies totally flat) and then transforms into a reclinable buggy for a 6 month + til about 3-4 years old. It can be used as a travel system too as the M and P car seat slips on to it so good for quick nip into shops if baby is asleep (not that i ever used this much!).

I also have a zapp (ds is now one) which I bought for my car (i have a mini convertible so not much room for anything nevermind a buggy!) as this is the smallest one I could find to fit into the boot and I use it almost every day when out with DS but use the pliko when out in DP's car or for long walks from home as it reclines where the zapp doesnt.
