Social services worry

I had a baby in December and my mum is quite full on with supporting me. She noticed I hadn’t done the recycling properly and took it upon herself to go through it, in doing so she noticed the bin was cracked on one side. She then called the council to say I was on my own and not doing so well so she was calling on my behalf…and could someone come out to replace the bin as it was cracked.

im panicking now that they will refer this to social services as she specifically said im not coping (I am!!). I have anxiety and can’t stop thinking about this.

You will not get referred to social services over not being able to report your own cracked bin. Are you getting help for your anxiety? It sounds like you could really use some. I suffered from horrific anxiety after my son was born so I know how it feels.

I'd speak to your Health Visitor. Mine was really supportive with my mental health issues during pregnancy and after DD was born.

Social services won't be contacted because your DM contacted the council about your cracked bin.

Social services won't be interested in you at all as long as the baby is fed, clean and clothed and the absolute basics of safety are in place in your house.

You need more support though and ideally some friends who you can chat to about stuff like this because every single friend of mine would be able to reassure me about something like this straight away.

They won't pass this on. It's a cracked bin and your mum was just explaining why she was phoning and not you.

It can be common to find your anxiety in general gets worse after having a baby. If you're finding the feelings are getting overwhelming then reach out to your health visiting team or doctor. There's lots of help they can give for maternal mental health.
