Best white noise

My little one isn't a bad sleeper but not the best! Not sure why we haven't tried it until now but wondering how best to use it and recommendations

We do have a Ewan the sheep which we once used but ended up in its box

She's 6 months - goes to bed 5-7pm depending on last nap and generally has one night feed and up anywhere between 5am-630 with 2-3 settles mainly for the dummy
Is this good for a 6m old?!

Every day is different so thinking of getting a white noise machine so we can introduce it with the bedtime routine which is bath/bottle bed

She doesn't need the bottle to sleep but we do a cuddle and down drowsy sometimes asleep but sometimes her eyes are open and she's nodding off so think that's pretty good

Sometimes she will need a resettle so just trying to get her to sleep better as sometimes we are up a lot

She's only moved to her own room last 2 nights so can't really say she's completely settled in there yet as it's early days

Last night she woke crying at 9pm ( went down at 645 and didn't want her bottle only took
An 0z ) offered her a feed but didn't what it just cried for 20 mins so gave calpol and cuddled to sleep as she was really upset
Then she slept til 2:30 and gave her a feed and went back until 5am, gave dummy then went back until 6:10

Anyway thinking a white noise machine to see if it helps her as read loads on here about them and how they help babies settle

Thank you x

We've used white noise for DS since he was about 6 weeks old and recommend it highly. He's just turned 2 and we do still use it although I've found he is less reliant on it, especially for naptimes.

We use the Tommee Tippee bear (USB rechargeable which is a lifesaver) at nighttime and use the heartbeat sound. It has different settings so you can play around with it and see what's best for you.

For naps I use our family tablet and use a free white noise baby app, and I use a washing machine sound. Different sounds so he can differentiate between night time and nap time.

It's great as it allows me and DH to still be doing stuff around the house as it makes some noises, like us walking up the stairs, less obvious if DS hasn't quite yet settled to sleep.

I feel like the heartbeat noise also helps DS realise it's still bedtime if he happens to wake during the night and can usually settle himself back to sleep.

There is lots of music on Spotify that is designed for sleep. The Max Richter 'Sleep' album is really good, and there is a group called Marconi Union who have several albums of sleep music.

@Lottie917 does it stay on constantly? It sounds similar to the sheep so I may get the sheep back out especially as we already have one. I just think it may help her as have read so many people recommended it x

Definitely recommend a constant white noise machine, we just got a cheap one off amazon that stays on all night. DD still uses it now at 2 and is a fab sleeper so no plans to stop anytime soon (she actually asks us to switch it on whem shes tired 😂). We hated ewan the sheep and it going off seemed to disturb my daughter more.

I use the various white noise albums on Spotify played through a Sonos speaker. Works a charm.

We used white noise with our twins, it was helpful I think. We had the owl by I think skip hop, as well as being a fairly attractive thing it's also an optional nightlight and has a nice range of noises including womb like swooshes and nature noises. They still have it aged 6 and sometimes put it on the rainforest sounds 🤣

Lottie917 · 30/01/2023 08:36

@chocoholi yep it stays on consistently through the night. You have other settings to play for 20 mins and then it listens if your baby stirs and turns on again but we never found that setting very effective, was easier to have it on the whole time x

chocoholi · 30/01/2023 08:39

@Lottie917 thank you I'll definitely get one
I just admit I'm not a fan of the sheep so far
And the sensor is the same doenst really work well for us so I think I'll get a different one x

Also bought a white noise machine from Amazon. Best thing we ever did. We had one of the toy ones and they are not great. We also tried an app on my phone which was good but tied up the phone. DS still uses it now (4). We tried to wean him off it and then he was unwell so we brought it back and we never tried again! It has been amazing!

Also agree re: Ewan and snuzz cloud.
both were an expensive waste of time

KatieKat88 · 30/01/2023 08:47

We got one from Amazon, probably around £20 and has lasted a couple of years so far! Don't intend on getting rid of it any time soon as I like hearing it through the wall now!

Sarahcoggles · 30/01/2023 08:57

There's a free app you can get on an iPad of you've got one , variety of noises including white

We found You tube quite good, loads of sites to choose from and long videos to go all night long.
