Bath time HELPPPP

Hi everyone, my 8 week old absolutely loves being in the bath! However once I take him out the screams are horrible. I dry him and get him changed as fast as possible. I bath him 3x a week, I also try to distract him with his playmat because he loves the hanging toys! But that doesn't work.

Could I bath him everyday to get used to it? Or do you have any tips?

Mine did this as a newborn. What slightly helped was doing the bath during the day as opposed to in the evening. By the evening he was tired and grouchy and the massive sensory shock of being in the bath and then subsequently being taken out was too much. Still sometimes screamed during the day though I have to say. I think it’s just a thing that’ll pass with time to be honest. I’m pretty certain DS wasn’t like that by about 4-5 months.

We had this too and it did pass around 4 months. Before that I mostly did baths during the day to avoid the tears before bed. I tried turning the heating up and warming the towel so it was less of a shock getting out of the warm bath but not sure it helped much. Wrapping her in the towel quickly and having a cuddle before getting dressed seemed to help a bit but mostly it improved with time. She can still be a bit grizzly while getting dressed when she’s tired but never screams or cries any more (now 6 months).

I do mix it up sometimes in the day if I know we're out for the evening. I might stick to day times for now, did you bath your son everyday?

Thank you for the tip! I'm gonna try everything 😂 hopefully it goes away soon, it makes me feel like a bad mom when he screams.

Try putting a flannel on his tummy and chest and take him out with it still on him. Then remove it when he is bundled in the towel

Don’t worry you’re not a bad Mum! I only started on daily baths once I could get her out of it without any screaming so about 4 months. A couple of times a week is fine with a wash with a flannel or damp cotton wool in between. They don’t get that dirty when little. I would only do a daily bath if it actually helps to relax them at night.

We did initially, but when we realised it was causing more trauma than it was worth, we dropped to a couple of times a week if I remember correctly.
