Hi
I am in the process of weaning my 17 mo (fed to sleep/naps but no longer working as he is snacking all night on me) and so far he is on day 3 and protesting at night but am sticking with it. I am feeling really engorged and have previously had nasty case of mastitis so want to avoid. What is the quickest way to dry up my supply whilst avoiding this. I have been using my Haaka and massaging to let off pressure but should I be going completely cold Turkey. I have always had a lot of milk and fast let down mixed with him being a very hungry boy so they are currently feeling like they are crawling up my neck and I need relief fast
Appreciate any tips xx

Are you stopping completely? I know decongestants can dry up supply in some women which if you’re stopping all together might help
Otherwise expressing off as little as you can to be comfortable and if you feel mastitis coming on ibuprofen and hand expressing any blockages and get antibiotics if you need from the gp

Yes stopping completely as he is not interested in any other feeds apart from when sleepy. As Thanks for the tips, I will look into decongestants x

I've heard of Epsom salts being used but not sure what you're supposed to do!

I'm using Sudafed and cabbage leaves. No discomfort so far but my 16 month old had already dropped the night feeds so we were down to twice a day. Good luck!

I went cold turkey when DS was 2.5. It wasn't as bad as I thought, as he was only doing bedtime feeds by that point and I timed the last feed to be 2 weeks before I went away for a child free weekend. First couple of mornings I woke up uncomfortable but it quickly calmed down. I would express a little bit in the shower on a morning to help, as I had had a couple of nasty bouts of mastitis when DS was tiny, so was a bit paranoid about it. It wasn't an issue though.

Good luck!
