Toddler day-time / night-time wetting

My DS is 3.5 years old and was day-time potty trained about a year ago, it's been on my radar to start reading up on night-time training (when, how etc.) However before we tackle this there's a couple of toilet-training issues we're experiencing and i was wondering if anyone else has been through similar and could share any advice...

  1. Whilst DS no longer wears a day-time nappy, he often has (wee) accidents in the day, perhaps once or twice every few days. I can't work out whether it's simply related to distraction (i.e. too busy to realise or say he needs a wee), or something else?
  1. Whilst he still wears a nappy at night, for the last 6–12 months he's been wee'ing so much during the night that we've had to start doubling up his nappies to stop them leaking. We use special night-time nappies that are the right size for him and we make sure he doesn't drink too much close to bedtime. Again is this normal at his age or is something else going on perhaps?

Thanks

If he's seeing that much at night I personally wouldn't start night weaning now, I'd leave it for at least a couple of months until the weather has warmed a little.

Whilst you are waiting you could watch him a bit more to try and spot if there's a pattern to the wetting like tiredness, illness or not wanting to leave his activity.

I'd also get him used to having lots of drinks in the morning so that he's nice and hydrated. Try things like diluted fruit juice with breakfast and hot chocolate mid-morning.

As for the night time wetting. Get him into the habit of having a wee on the toilet or potty as part of his bedtime routine and if he's leaking, look at the wraps that you can use over a disposable/reusable nappy.
