Just to see what peoples interpretation is of the meaning of 'tough love'??

I was scrolling through social media on a very rare occasion yesterday and saw my sister had put up at the time a happy birthday status with pictures of our DM saying thanking her for being the best and how much 'tough love' she gets from her. When I know for fact she relies on my mum heavily for advice, to do things.

I'm the polar opposite to her. I'm not jealous but I just don't think she understanding the meaning of the term and the need to say she gets it all over social media. My DH agrees with me as he has seen first hand how reliant she can be on my parents.

Thanks 😊

I don’t think tough love means you can’t rely on your parents or that they don’t support you. I don’t see how going to your mum for advice and tough love are mutually exclusive.
To me tough love is telling someone something they don’t want to hear but ultimately you have their best interests at heart and you’re trying to help them. Or making a younger child do something they don’t want to do but it’s good for them etc
Tough love doesn’t mean not supporting your adult children or not offering advice to them.
