Blisters on 3 month old hand- please help!

DS is 3 months old and has terrible drool rash on his chin, ear and back of head from reflux/dribbling at night time. I've been trying to keep skin dry and clean and applying sudo and vaseline as a barrier.
In the last 4 days he's now developed sores and blisters on his fingers and thumbs on both hands from mouthing them. He doesn't suck particularly hard or for long but it's just getting worse! Any tips for helping them heal?
TIA, first time anxious mummy

I used lanisoh to cure everything from cradle cap to chapped skin. It’s especially good as it doesn’t need to be cleaned off before breast feeding. I’d be concerned about sudocrem & Vaseline being on hands if they are going in his mouth. Are you using wipes to clean his hands? I’m wondering if that’s also causing a reaction?

That looks very sore.

Is it hand foot and mouth?

Bumble84 · 23/01/2023 20:55

Is it definitely from mouthing at his hands or could it be hand, foot and mouth?

at that age my DD was still wearing vests with built in scratch mitts, that might help to allow it to calm down a bit. Poor wee thing, it does look sore so I understand why you want to get it sorted.

Herpatic whitlow?

Oh bless him that looks sore. Agree if you have any lansioh that could work. I'd probably take him to the pharmacist tomorrow and see if they can advise, although they might suggest GP as he's quite little still.

I love his cardi by the way! ❤️

I agree that looks like hand foot mouth, or potentially impetigo.

Pop to pharmacy

Thanks all, just to clarify, the sudo and vaseline was for his chin, haven't used anything on his hands as I didn't know if it would be safe.
I've tried using mits at night time the last couple of nights but they get damp against his skin which I don't think is helping.

So many of you suggested hand foot and mouth that I will have to ask pharmacist about it! I had seen that when I googled about them and he has just gotten over a cold but he's never had a temperature or blisters on his feet/anywhere else so I'd thought it couldn't be.

We will pop to the pharmacist and ask- I'll update with their suggestions 😊

Thank you everyone!

My kids never had it on their feet last time round. Just the mouth and hands.
I'd make a GP appointment if it's easy to get one at your doctors. At mine, we see a nurse practitioner for things like this, always on the same day if we ring at 8am.

Cakeandcoffee93 · 24/01/2023 06:37

Impetigo is going round I wouldn’t rule that out

Aww poor little sausage, that does look sore! Is it quite cold in his room at night or are you taking him outside for a walk or into a cold car? Without mittens? Drool
on fingers then going into the cold can really make them sore.

i hope the pharmacist can give you something to sort it out.

I love his cardi!

My 18 month old had both impetigo and hand foot and mouth at the same time just before Christmas. She had blisters on her fingers and knuckles (and the hold/honey crusted sore on her cheek). She also had blisters on the soles of her feet and bumps (not nappy rash) on her bum. Keep an eye out for bumps on his bum as it can get very bad if the bumps blister and burst.
At the end of it all, she caught chickenpox. It was beyond stressful. Best of luck.
