It looks very pale, not sure if I should be worried (I'm a ftm)?

Hi OP. Might be nothing to worry about but grey or pale poo requires a drs visit ideally as soon as possible. I'd give 111 a call.

The Great Ormond Street Hospital page says this:

Pale poo
Some poo is light or more yellow-ish in colour. Lots of people do the odd pale stool. But if you find your poo is often pale you should tell a parent. A visit to the doctors is a good idea just to make sure everything’s okay.

Has she drank enough/had enough wet nappies?

I'll add, I may be being over cautious as my son had a serious problem I didn't know about and pale poo was the only symptom. He's fine now.

My 1 and 4 year old have poos like this when they eat a lot of cheese.

Oh my goodness my little boys (14 month) poo's are always like this and when I asked the doctor he said it was because he drinks lots of milk. Now I'm panicking there's something wrong and I've not done anything about it 😩

I didn't mean to panic anyone and I'm probably being over cautious. I'm not a medical professional and am only speaking from my own experience.

Mine get this occasionally when they're run down or suffering with a virus. Sometimes it also looks frothy, like Mr Whippy ice cream (sorry) but I had GP check it and was told it wasn't anything to worry about as long as it didn't continue.

Oh no don't panic, you took him to a doctor who thought it was fine so I'm sure he's okay.

I've just started giving mine cow's milk so maybe it could be that, it's just really different from her normal poo.

I didn't think anything of it at first time but my partners mum just happened to phone and said to check it out (she works at a gp surgery so knows more about this sort of thing than I do).

I think its probably nothing, hopefully, but I've phoned 111 and they are going to get a doctor to phone back.

@BerryTree please will you keep me updated with what they say? My little boys have been like this for about 8 weeks now. I'm going to take him to the walk in centre in the morning (once he's had a poo so I can take a photo or sample). Google says it could be a lactose intolerance. I feel like a terrible mum 🤦🏼‍♀️

broomers · 20/01/2023 21:45

My DS used to have this fairly often because he's an absolute milk monster (cows milk)

The doctor just phoned me and she said it doesn't sound there is a problem and said that liver problems which cause pale poop usually happen to newborns and she also said to look out for yellow eyes, going off of food and having a temperature which she doesn't have.

I told her about switching to cow's milk but she didn't say anything about stopping the milk.

I'm sure your little one is probably fine too, but it never hurts to get things checked out if you are worried

That's a relief to know, mine is a bit of a milk monster, too!

@BerryTree thank you! I'm glad all is ok! Xxx

My daughter had this when I switched her from formula to normal cows milk at 1. Light poos and some constipation. She has a few possible intolerances so has had an appointment with a dietician who said it was quite normal for children to struggle with dairy before two and to just see how much she can tolerate without symptoms. We generally find normal butter, cheese etc is fine in but we give her oat milk instead of cows milk.
