help! My DC walks perfectly with grandparents, holding their hands. With me I need reins, I hold their hand they struggle free and lie on the floor. They run off. It's so dangerous it scares me. Please help. I hate walking them anywhere.

I had to do this with my son too. They seem to play up more when with their parents. My mum and dad and MIL and FIL always say they prefer to have the kids on their own, apparently their like totally different children when me and dp are not around lol it does get better though. I was able to stop using the rein just after son turned 3

Mine’s like this. Although slowly improving. Some of them are just wilful at this age

yousmellnice · 20/01/2023 17:49

It's awful. How do you go anywhere?

I'd just use the reins until they can be more reliable.

Just use the pram mostly and if I do take her on reins I take the pram as well and put her in it if she’s kicking off.

Yeah I do and then we just sit on the floor for a bit every so often! The screaming is so bad.

Ah the pram is good. I just worried they'd never get better if I didn't ditch the pram.

Oh thank goodness. Thank you all so much. I felt so down about it today I went and had a little cry.

At 2 and a half their at a bit of an awkward stage as well. They don’t want to be sitting in their buggy everywhere but also don’t want to be walking(running) everywhere either. Plus i think it a kind of novelty for them walking with someone who isn’t mum or dad lol

SunshineClouds1 · 20/01/2023 20:41

I done rein and buggy at the same time also.
I couldn't of got anywhere otherwise.

Also agree they think their great walking with others who aren't the parents.

It does get easier, at nearly 3 we managed to ditch the buggy and he holds his hand out ready to hold mine when we leave the house.

He loved pressing the button at traffic lights so I said if you walk nicely you can press it.
He still shouts for the green man to come on now at 4.

Just keep calming reiterating it's hand or buggy or hand or reins, whichever you have with you.

CakeCrumbs44 · 21/01/2023 09:58

If they're happy to go in the pushchair just use that, there's no rush to get them out and walking it just makes your life more difficult!

Ok ill try that. I often end up carrying them screaming.
