Protecting baby from sun?

Probably a silly FTM question but just wondering about how you protect your babies from the sun in summer? We are travelling with our 7 month old to the southern hemisphere where the sun is quite strong even if it's not too hot. Do I put sunscreen on her face and any exposed skin every day? How do I avoid getting it in her eyes? Even if I'm careful how do I avoid having her touch her face and rub it in her eyes? Is it better just to use a hat? She will be in our travel stroller (Babyzen Yoyo) or maybe a baby carrier when we are walking around. Obviously I know about trying to avoid direct sunshine but it's someimes unavoidable. It seemed a bit easier last summer when she was a newborn as the pram bassinet was well shaded compared to the Yoyo.

Sunscreen on all exposed skin, AND cover them to protect from direct sunlight. Babies' skin is so, so delicate and burns a lot faster than you think. Hats are a must, and yes put cream on her face regularly

Dress her light, but long sleeves as protection. The cream will absorb into her skin so don't worry too much about her pushing it into her eyes. In extreme heat she can't NOT have sunscreen on

We’ve just come back from Australia with DS.

Suncream everywhere applied multiple times a day, 20 mins before going outside. UV swimwear & long sleeved clothing where possible. Legionnaire’s hats are useful.

Keep to the shade as much as possible especially between 11-3pm, keep an eye on the UV levels on the weather apps.

Thanks for the advice! Will definitely do the sunscreen then and maybe look for more long sleeve clothes. Would you avoid those short sleeve romper type things? It’s New Zealand so unlikely to be any extreme heat (especially in the south where we will mostly be) but I know from experience the sun can be pretty strong and you can burn when not expecting to.

We used all in one swim suits long sleeves and ling arms when our boy was at the beach at this age, low chemical organic sun blocks are more readily available now but cover rather than sunblock. We are on sydney where the sun is strong, we would stay indoors at the peak of the day and now he is 10 use long sleeve rashie and jammers with zinc on his face.

The chemicals in sunscreen aren't great but better than sunburn, I would use a zinc based sunscreen as it's less slippery and doesn't seem to 'melt' into their eyes when it gets hot. Though it does look funny as it stays white, because of the zinc content.

Long sleeves, hat, etc, plus sunscreen.

Some people use (clean, new) makeup brushes to make it easier to get sunscreen on babies' faces!

I’m following this thread as we’ll be moving to our summer house in a few months. It will be 27+ but locals don’t bother with kid’s sun cream or full length UV swimwear so I can’t ask the local mums.

I get we should cover them up, but how
do they not get hot?!

I wear linen and cotton, but still feel too hot if I have legs and arms covered!

Thanks again all for the advice!

Would a swimsuit like this be protective enough or would you get a full length one?

I'm not even sure if we will be going swimming at all as the water is cold. Maybe just a brief paddle so don't want to spend too much on something she may grow out of before we go on a summer holiday.
