Room temp for baby?

So it's absolutely freezing out! But house is warm and cozy 😊

What should temp in baby's room be overnight?

It's so toasty warm in our bedroom and her room is cold as we don't use it yet so have never worked - plus she was born in the summer

But when she does go in which is very soon just wondering what should set it on and how - we do have a thermostat luckily

But the programs are 4 times a day which we can choose a day so
1 on
2 off
3 back on
4 off

We can also set it to not fall below a certain no of degrees

I'm home a fair bit so I just use the manual normally if it gets a tad cold
But keen to know what others do re timings

When I worked it was easy -
On 6am
Off 7:45 we were up at 7am and out by 8am

Back on 230pm to be nice and warm after school run
Off 5pm as we then doing bath / dinner and that heat would get us through to bed time ish

But conscious with bills rising how does everyone do it?

Thanks

We've always been told 16-20 degrees is ideal.

16-20 degrees they say. However I think you've got to use your own judgment as my babys room we have thermostat set to 20 degrees as if it falls to around 19 I get goosebumps when I go in there, no way would I let him sleep in 16 degree room.

Heat goes on if it's below 16 inside

We had ours set to 18 when baby was little. 16 is freezing, especially if their hands are out as is the case with baby sleeping bags

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/01/2023 09:38

16-20 is the ideal. At the moment the heating is on morning and evening and sometimes an hour or so in the day as I’m home with a newborn, but I’m in the south. east where it’s been mild so lots of weeks this winter it hasn’t gone on at all. Our room is currently between 16-19 over night, but it’s not the easiest to control

FlounderingFruitcake · 19/01/2023 09:38

I’m very confused by your heating system but regardless I wouldn’t let it get below 16. How warm you want it to be beyond that is just personal preference. Just dress baby accordingly.

We just had the heating off at night as usual when ds was little. Certainly wasn't over 18 degrees.

We never heat the house overnight and I have a 4 month old as well as a 3 year old. 3 year old has a duvet and blanket over it and is plenty warm as long as he stays under it 😂

4 month old has a sleeping bag with detachable arms so if it's properly freezing the arms are attached and I put a pair of thick warm socks over his hands too. He's never been cold when I've picked him up in the morning and sleeps a solid 12 hours. I was told if baby's cold they will wake up and fuss. I'd say our bedroom probably gets down to 14 degrees or so when it's properly cold outside.

We have a 6 month old and have it set to come on at 18 or 20 during the day and 16 overnight.

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 19/01/2023 09:52

I have a 2 year old and 1 year old in the same room and keep the thermostat in there when they're home and don't let their room go below 20 degrees.

When it was just the 2 year old in there as a baby, it was around 21, he's a cold kid so like its a bit warmer but my 1 year old like it a bit cooler.

I just keep it at 20 degrees now and adjust the kids clothing.
So because my 1 year old likes to be cooler, he has a 1 tog sleep suit with pjs and a vest underneath.

My 2 year old now has a quilt but moves a lot so has the same 1 tog sleepsuit with pjs vest and socks but can keep himself warmer if he wishes.

1 year old hasn't quite figured out what a blanket is for yet other than to mess about with.

you'll get to know what your baby is like, trial and error I'm afraid!

strawberrysummer19 · 19/01/2023 11:29

I think that's what I'll do just set night to 18 as we like to be warm and dress bubba accordingly

@FlounderingFruitcake
The heating system basically has 4 times you can set a day to come on and go off again that's all but you can over ride it
