Baby milk - 10 month old

Hi

My DS is 10 month old and now down to 2 milk bottles a day, morning and evening. He is now having 3 meals a day.
I have been advised to drop 1 so that when he is 1 year old he only has 1 bottle.
Which do I drop next?

Which does he like the most? I'd keep the evening bottle so he has a full belly before bed. If he wants a morning bottle, just make less and offer more breakfast

At the moment he seems to like both. He wakes up a little grump but after milk he starts laughing. The nighttime one is part of his night routine. I was going to try lowering the morning one gradually and then keeping the night time one but switching from formula to cows milk.

I found the morning one easier to drop but we deffo didn't do it as soon as he turned 1.

I wouldn't be rushing to drop a bottle, wait until baby is ready Smile
I kept up the morning bottle until it impacted DD having breakfast, was about 14/15 months.
She was on prescription milk for CMPA though so not sure if that made a difference

I don't see why you need to go to 1 feed tbh. What's the rationale for that?

You could transfer the morning one into a lidded cup rather than using a bottle if you wanted to transition from bottles.

Thank you

We were just told this is what we needed to do by the health clinic.
TBH he has naturally dropped the other bottles himself but he does seem to want the remaining 2 currently.

With my first child I kept morning and evening milk until after 1 but reduced the volumes. I just switched to cows milk and put it in a cup rather than bottle. He is 3 now and still sometimes takes a cup of milk with breakfast and takes another at afternoon snack time.
My second child had bad reflux so the last bottle before bed had to be 30-60minutes before she lay down. It stopped any milk sleep association so we dropped the evening milk early and kept morning and afternoon snack bottles. Switched to cups and cows milk at 11/12months and at 15 months she still enjoys 150ml twice a day.

My 11m old still has 3. 1 before her morning nap (never been interested in 1 on waking), 1 before her afternoon nap and a bedtime one.
The afternoon one we moved to Oat milk this week (she is cows milk allergy). The morning one we are going to move to oat milk next week and the bedtime one we will move at her first birthday.
However that is impacted by the fact the dr won't prescribe her prescription milk after 1 so we have to move to oat milk.
She does eat really well though and also drinks decent quantities of water.
After her birthday we will gradually work on moving them to cups and away from sleep but not hurry for that.

They're still supposed to have around 400mls at that age. Will your ds still get that amount of milk if you drop a bottle?

I dont see a pressing need to drop to 1 bottle before 1 year and even at that point they could still have milk in a cup a couple of times a day

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 18/01/2023 06:38

My little girl used to have milk on a morning and evening until she was 2.5. Then only since Christmas she doesn't have milk before bed. She's now 3.5.

Hi it roughly works out to 440ml. So I think based on all the responses I will reduce the morning slightly bit by bit until he decides it is not needed. If he still wants both then that is fine just move to cows milk from 1.
