Next to me cot >>> own room

My baby is 6m this weekend and looking to move her into her own room soon.

She's in a next to me cot in with us and her new cot is a space saver cot.

Her next to me is so snug and cosy and her space saver looks so open

How do I settle her / introduce her into it?

I try and do at least one day time nap in her cot in the daytime if I can. She still has around 4naps a day but her morning one is usually on me, then we may go out and about so she sleeps in car/pram/on me if we are at a club so she's good at sleeping anywhere I've found.

Do I try the afternoon nap in the cot ? But then won't she be confused come bed time ?! By putting her back in her next to me ?
Do I just put her straight to bed in it one eve ?

We have a lovely bedtime routine where she does down lovely.

Guess I don't want anything to unsettle / disturb her when she's so happy with her routine and current bed!

Thanks for reading x

Hi Strawberry, I think we were on a few pregnancy threads together

We're actually trying to move our son out of the Moses basket at the moment - currently putting basket in the cot. It's hard xx

At 6 months they don't care where they sleep. Just do it and, in the nicest possible way, don't overthink it too much 😁

Like a pp has said, don't overthink it. My baby loved her next to me and went down in it brilliantly, I was prepared to do a phased switch over but in all honesty, I put her in her next cot and room one night and that was it. She slept the same. I would just try it and see, don't need to make it too complicated

Exactly this.

I overthought moving dc1, and DH said (on the very evening she turned six months) to just try her that night in her proper cot in her own room and see how she got on.

No fuss, no issues, went to sleep as normal. No disruption to her sleep pattern or waking up looking for us.

If your dc is a good sleeper anyway (luckily both mine were) making it into A Thing with practice naps etc might do more harm than good.

@ 👋 hi how are you getting on ?

I was thinking of maybe moving the cot or using the space saver in our room but as others have said maybe just go for it. Maybe I'm over thinking it. I suppose it's worth a go! X

Just go for it and see what happens. Mine has slept better in the larger cot as she was running her hands along the edge of the Next to Me constantly. Still in our room though as we don’t have space to move her into her own room until we move in a few months.

My obstetrician advised me that baby should have its own room at six months.
Go for it.

I put my baby in his own room last week at 5 months old (against reccomendations I know but that was my decision) and I don't think he even noticed he was in a different room. If anything he has slept better. Don't overthink it OP ☺️

Moved both my DDs from their next-to-me to the big crib at five months with no transition or anything. Literally just did bedtime routine as normal and put them down in different crib in the end. Neither seemed to notice and both immediately started sleeping better, presumably because they were in their own room and not being disturbed by my snoring me and DH moving around in our sleep.

I was really worried about putting my 6m old in her cot but for the last 2 nights she has slept so much better (touchwood) she was getting too big for her next to me and was being super fidgety… cot is still in our room though and will be in her own room in the next couple of weeks so that could all change 😂
