Foods ideas 6month old

Started weaning when baby was 5.5months under advice of HV

She was unsettled, green poos and starting to refuse milk. She's been a fairly unsettled baby since birth off and on but poos are back to brown and we've 2 teeth come through so putting it down to that

Anyway she's taken to food so well. We've been going 16 days and have tried all the vegetables and potato. Haven't started fruit or any baby led yet.

I have a book I'm going by but as she's on aptamil pepti 1 for suspected cmpa ( DR and paed doesn't think infact she's adamant she doesn't have one ) but follow up isn't until wnd of January I want to crank the weaning up but I can't go by this book as I'm steering clear of dairy for now - might try some once we have seen the Dr

What can I use for porridge ? Don't want to use her milk - it's rank and stinks so would rather try a non dairy based milk, any recommendations?

Also can I still try egg as that's the next step in the book?

Any ideas would be fab - keen to try BLW from
This weekend once she is 6 months and would have done purée for a good 3 weeks

My son has CMPA.

Most baby porridge had milk powder in it. Check the labels carefully. We were advised to use baby rice instead and I made it with pepti.

With my daughter though I went straight to weetabix with soya milk (not CMPA but her brother tends to eat her leftovers) alpro do a good growing up soya milk. It's got expensive though. What ever you use don't use an organic one as it won't have the added vitamins etc.

We also did toast for breakfast with dairy free butter and marmite.

Egg is fine to try. Peanut butter is another one to try soon. There's lots of evidence now that early introduction of allergens reduces the chance of allergies. DD was part of a clinical trial about this.

Humous is also a great dairy free protein to give.

Whatever you do though, check the labels very carefully. Milk and whey powder is in a lot.

For porridge I used just a little water and grated pear or apple added straight to the pot while cooking. It added extra liquid, creaminess and gave the porridge a nice flavour. Baby used to love it.

@Twizbe my HV said to use ready break not baby rice?

I've heard some people use oat milk so was going to maybe try that?

Ah ok yea egg and peanut butter is in the book so I'll give that a go.

Thank you. If they are so adamant she's not cmpa I'm tempted to try something....but I'll see what the Dr says at the review as it's only a week or so away x

Some people have a real bee in their bonnet about baby rice.

It was the dietician who told me to use that, BUT my son was 4 months and he had weight as well as allergy issues. There is nothing in baby rice that would have caused a reaction and at that age, we weren't interested in introducing new tastes.

Check the label on readybrek - and the price. No need to go brand name if there is a cheaper alternative lol.

Oat is good and some people want to avoid soya. Particularly for boys and some CMPA kids also react to soya. Thankfully mine didn't.

Alpro also do a growing up oat milk (again expensive)

We use soya for the kids now because it's cheaper lol

@Twizbe I used baby rice for my first
I think it's because she said it has no nutritional value but ready brek is oats ?

I'll check the labels next time I'm out and I'm all for finding a non brand ready brek! Anything to save money

I've done all my own foods so far - the pouches / jars are so expensive so trying to avoid where I can
