What did your 6-7mo eat today?

Just wondering what you fed your 6-7mo today? I know at this age it is mostly about them exploring textures and flavours but DS is a big lad and is well up for properly eating. This is his menu today but a bit worried I'm resorting to bread because of the sodium content...

Breakfast - Quarter slice of toast with cream cheese and some banana

Lunch - Omelette, avacado, Cucumber

Dinner - Spinach and Sweetcorn pancake, slices of pear, some yogurt

Please note not all of it gets in his mouth! Lol! And of course all his milk feeds ontop of this! Looking forward to hearing your food ideas :-)

My five and a half month old (first week weaning) had two teaspoons of apricot puree which he spat out

Laurappo · 15/01/2023 20:06

7 month old had some weetabix and a banana then when out for Sunday lunch some mashed up carrot and potato. Didn't eat it all by any means but absolutely lapped it up. He has loved everything I have given him so far!
Fingers crossed it continues. He's dairy free as suspected allergy which I've been finding a little difficult (so much has diary!) But it's kicked me and hubby into thinking and eating a little healthier ourselves

SamanthaVimes · 15/01/2023 21:19

6 month old had one carrot stick which he threw on the floor after about 2 minutes, none made it into his mouth

@theotherfossilsister DS was the same with purees but as soon as we started BLW his eating just took off. Think he's enjoying chewing tbh especially because he's teething! Didn't think Cucumber would be so much of a hit but must feel nice on his gums.

@Laurappo once you find easy dairy free go to recipes it gets much easier (I say this as being wheat intolerant myself!) Cooking from scratch even if its just one meal every few days makes a difference.

@SamanthaVimes I tried some steamed carrot sticks and they were not a hit either!

My 5 month old had a lick of humous and gummed a celery stick for a wee bit!

This is more than my 16 month old manages in a day. We're going through a particularly painful fussy eating stage at the moment and it's driving me batty although I try not to show it.

He's fit and healthy and has endless energy for running around so I'm sure he's fine but today was really aggravating me. It'll pick back up soon: it's feast or famine here.

Breakfast: few spoonfuls of Greek yoghurt. Half a toasted hot cross bun

Snack: not today, no thank you!

Lunch: literally nothing. Just some milk.

Dinner: 6 spoonfuls of porridge with banana and cinnamon

He has breastmilk 3 times a day. By next week he'll be stuffing his face again I'm sure. Maybe it's teeth. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

When he was 6 months old he used to eat broccoli and avocado and salmon and corn on the cob. Those were the days.

My 6.5month old had steamed butternut squash, roast courgette (2 finger size pieces of each) and a slice of toast with cashew nut butter at lunch. Then tonight she's had about 2 tablespoons of spinach and potato dal, a strawberry, 2 potato wedges and 2 carrot sticks.

We started blw a month ago and she loved it straight away, I'm amazed by how much she can eat now. She's always been big too, on the 91st centile since birth. I don't feel like she's having any less milk from me either, but she must be.

Mamabear04 · 16/01/2023 09:54

@whatsdiswhatsdat definitely sounds like teething! Has he got his molars in? I'd try some calpol/ibuprofen/teething gel (delete appropriate) 30 mins before food. Toddlers are so hard to feed!

@Dottydino do you add any chilli or chilli powder to your daal? That's a great meal idea!

OP posts:
Dottydino · 16/01/2023 10:18

I added mustard seeds, cumin and coriander. I don't think I did add chilli this time but she has had a tiny bit in some dishes. I made a batch and freezed it in ice cube trays so it's one of our back up easy meals!

whatsdiswhatsdat · 16/01/2023 12:56

@Mamabear04

Doesn't seem like teeth. He has 18 teeth in.

His eating went steadily downhill from the age of one. Most kids wean well and then start to drop everything from their diet bit by bit. It's hell.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 16/01/2023 21:32

My completely toothless 7 month old has had milk for breakfast, porridge, 3 melty sticks and a biscuit for lunch, about six spoons of sweet potato purée, a whole frube and a raspberry for tea. Not sure if this is absolutely shocking or ok lol

MGee123 · 16/01/2023 22:01

@whatsdiswhatsdat it probably isn't teeth, it's just a phase they go through. Our daughter did this. It's just started getting better again at 17 months but still quite limited. The book 'My Child Won't Eat' is great - totally stopped me worrying. I just let her eat what she wants and if she chooses to eat nothing that's fine. Leave them to it, they know what they're doing!

Oncemoreoh · 16/01/2023 22:05

Mine had half a rusk melted into some milk and 5 baby spoons of puréed carrot. I thought at this age it was smooth purée only????

TowerStork · 16/01/2023 22:42

My 6mo loves food. Today she had
Breakfast: 5/6 teapsoons of ReadyBrek with peanut butter
Lunch: A kiwi mashed into Greek yogurt, 2 of those melt things
Dinner: 2 sweet potato and cheese bites
She bf morning and night and drinks two bottles during the day

I've been very impressed with how much she's taken to food but reading @whatsdiswhatsdat (great name) makes me realise I'm probably just being fooled.

Cleanqueennot · 16/01/2023 22:49

Well now I’m worried I’m not feeding bub enough! He turned 6 months last Thursday so we’ve tried 1 new thing each day. We want to do BLW so it’s a piece of food he can pick up. So far he’s tried broccoli, boiled potato wedge, parsnip, cauliflower and pasta. He’s had mixed reactions to them all. Cauliflower barely touched his lips, must not like the smell 😂 We are still at the stage of trying one thing per day. Not sure when to introduce more 🤔

TowerStork · 16/01/2023 23:00

@Cleanqueennot Look up some recipes online. I was doing one food at a time and then saw nice combinations that work really well. Also I didn't realise that most spices are OK so I add tumeric to scrambled egg. If you are introducing meat Baby bolognese is great because you can make it for the family and just add the salt to your own afterwards

Thank you. All the advice I read says the same but for some reason, him not eating well (or at all sometimes!) pushes all my stress buttons.

I've adopted an "eat it or don't eat it, I'm not bothered" approach. But inside I'm totally stressed with it all.

MGee123 · 17/01/2023 14:09

It pushed all mine too. Especially as the amount on the floor seemed to be much higher whenever I'd put lots of effort in!! Honestly, can't recommend that book highly enough. It totally chilled me out (which I would not have thought was possible)!

Mamabear04 · 17/01/2023 15:26

My oldest went through the beige phase around 2yo but now she's 3yo she's starting to try new things again. Things that have helped are letting her help me cook. She'll quite often ask to try things when we are prepping meals. I think another thing is to give a couple of options on a plate so a few safe options like toast and then something you know they won't eat like a small bit of vegetable. Even if they don't eat it, they still have the option. DD wouldn't touch blueberries for a good year and then one day she started eating them again. I still do this with other things. I got her to eat some Brocoli the other day by pretending we were dinosaurs and eating tiny trees! Little goals and try not to stress (I do stress and have a lot in the past).

DS tried Tofu today - don't think he liked the taste but found it easy to eat with no teeth! Trying to think of what to give him for dinner...

Please can I wake up this thread as I'm worried that I'm doing it wrong.

Today he has had a yoghurt (plain Greek) with an Ella's kitchen pouch

Milk at three am, half six and offered again at midday but refused, then at 1.30

Going to defrost some sweet potato soon

All babies are eating eggs in my antenatal group but he just throws them

Monstermoomin · 04/03/2023 18:10

Mine is 6mo, she isn't really interested. Today I gave her some of my watermelon, scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast and spag bol for tea.

None of it went in her mouth as she has very poor hand eye coordination, but she felt lots of the food and threw it all off the high chair so hey ho.

CoalCraft · 04/03/2023 19:32

Mine will be 7 mo this week. We only started weaning at 6 mo so it's been less than 4 weeks but she loves it.

Today she had...

Breakfast: banana porridge
Lunch: fruit custard
Dinner: mashed spag bol
Supper snack: carrot puff things, but she ate precisely none of them

Your menu sounds fine. Quite elaborate actually!
