Water and 12 week old

Hi everyone

So my little one has suspected diarrhoea and it could be coincidental but when she went to her dads, he told me his mum gave her sterilised water. She’s only 2 and a half months so I was mad about this as I read u shouldn’t give babies water this young. His response was “you’ve been a mum for 5 mins, stop thinking u know everything” … then when she came back to me, she’s had diarrhoea and bellyache for the past week and she’s struggling to finish her bottles (very unlike her) … do u think the water could have caused this or just be a coincidence? Also, do u take babies doctors for diarrhoea or let it pass? Thanks!

It will be a coincidence, when my DD was 8 weeks she was struggling with her stomach and the dr told me to give her water so it's safe they just tell you not to give them water so you don't fill them up on it but a bit here and there won't hurt

Unlikely it's the water - although they don't need it you can give it for constipation but just be careful incase if fills them up and then they don't want their milk but I've never had that problem

Sounds like more of a cleanliness issue more than anything

Water won’t have caused this, and the only reason you’re advised not to give water is so they don’t fill up on it and take their milk.

When babies are unwell sometimes Drs even advise small amounts of water to help flush through.

I’d book her in with your GP though to get to the bottom of what is up

Yes, I would take my 12 week only to the GP for this. No, she shouldn’t have given her water (it’s not advised in most situations) but a one off wouldn’t cause any harm and doubt that’s the cause of her tummy troubles. She’s not eating properly and her bowel movements are unusual for her: GP time.
