Sleep nest - uses other than sleeping?

Hi all, due with 1st baby in May so I'm starting to buy bits and pieces.

My SIL swore by a sleep nest for her little ones for naps, so I snapped one up in Aldi yesterday when I saw them. But having done some research and discovering it doesn't confirm to SIDS guidelines, I know I won't be using it for naps or bedtime. No judgement whatsoever for those who do, but for me I know the worrying will be too much.

So, what uses have you found for sleep pods other than sleeping? Tummy time is all I can think of. Just trying to decide whether to keep it or return it! Thanks 😊

Dog bed? (Not joking - a good dog bed can cost £30!)

Hi, I didn't have one and didn't end up needing one as LO slept well in cot. I can't think of anything else you could use it for, tummy time can be done anywhere (even on your chest) and they may hate tummy time anyway like mine!

I'd definitely return it and spend your money on something else - if he need for it arises you'll be able to pick one up then.

why can’t it be used for naps?

They just say not used unattended ie overnight when your asleep also. In the daytime a baby 0-6 months is supposed to nap in the same room as you, so you can use this in the living room with you fine. Also on the floor with play arch thing over the top when small.

We were given one by a friend and used it on the couch next to me in the evenings when baby was about 3 months old. He’d lie in it happily for a while (awake) and I’d dangle toys over him. He never slept in it though, he slept in a Moses basket downstairs and upstairs. I think he liked the fact he could “see” what was going on when he was in it whereas he couldn’t see over the sides of the Moses basket. I would never have bought one or recommend it to shine tbh, we didn’t get enough use out of it.

*recommend it to someone, not shine 😂

Because nobody truly has eyes on their baby 100% of the time they're napping and it just isn't worth the risk!

@Heckythump1 - well many do. Ds napped in sling, pram whilst I pushed watching him, or on sofa next to me after prised off boob the first 6 months. Naps only lasted about 30 mins max at a time. If I needed to do something like cook or gardening whilst he napped he was in bouncy chair or pram and taken with me.

Im not suggesting putting baby in this nest and then leaving them. But if baby falls asleep whilst your feeding on sofa, and you can gently slide them off and onto this nest next to you to give your arms a rest 20 mins, it’s not a problem.

I loved mine and still do - she's 5.5 months
Sleeps in it and I wouldn't have done without mine

Didn't have one for my first who had a Moses basket but she didn't like that so didn't bother with Moses this time

It's portable like others have said and we used to take it in the garden in the summer in the shade and she would sleep on it

Obviously just not unattended which id never do
Just like with anything have to be careful but for me it's one of my best buys x

If you're cooking, you're not watching baby all the time, it only takes a minute for baby to roll over and get wedge against the side of the sleep nest and a tragedy to happen.
I know you weren't using a sleep nest, but same principle applies. It really, really isn't worth the risk.

I have this one and we used it as a play mat as you can get a play arch that attaches to the side from the clevamama website. He did have occasional supervised naps in it but mostly it was just somewhere for him to lie down and kick about.
