Anyone else have a baby that calms for DH and not you?

My 12 week old DD calms down on DH’s shoulder and goes off to sleep whereas on me she fusses and cries and escalates. The exact same happened with my DS five years ago. He would only calm for DH. I’m breastfeeding again and sometimes people say ‘they can smell the milk’ but this is only when I’m sure she doesn’t want a feed, yet is needing to sleep. It’s hard to not feel despondent, that I’m doing something wrong. Please only comment if this has happened to you.

My DS was the same between 2-4 months. Even though I would hold him in the exact same position he just seemed to prefer DH doing it and it would calm him down a lot quicker. He’s now 7 months old and cries bloody murder when I leave the room so don’t worry too much! I’m sure it’s just a phase - you’re not doing anything wrong at all. 💐

Totally remember this with one of mine. It was like they enjoyed a change of scene! looking back I wonder if it was because he was less emotional than me - I did more nights as was on Mat Leave.

Ideally everything is shift work between two parents so do see it positively if you can and rest when the baby is being settled by your DH.

Both mine were the same. I'm convinced he held them differently!!

had the same I think it’s two things

  1. men are warmer generally so it’s like a big cosy blanket for babies especially in winter. With my baby once summer hit she would scream if her dad held her as he was too hot
  2. You are their safety spot and babies, kids and even adults are more likely to grumble and cry to the person they feel the most safe with…. It’s why many of us still want our mum well into adulthood if something goes wrong

My 10 year old is a daddies girl always has been. Would settle for him go to sleep for him but my other 2 girls would only settle for me and will only let me put them to bed even to this day and they are 6&4.

Sometimes mine takes it in turns! Sometimes I can sometimes it's only him 🤣
