Toddler carrier or hipseat

I'm going to Venice soon for a friend's wedding, nearly 3 year old joining us too. Its only a short break and I'm planning on spending just 1 day in Venice sight seeing with my toddler and husband. I'm not taking the stroller, we're taking hand luggage only so want to minimise waiting about in the airport for the stroller that will only be used for 1 day.

Anyway, my son is a good walker (runner!) But obviously he's not going to be able to do a full day without wanting to be carried. Has anybody used a carrier or hipseat for a toddler? If so are they worth it or are myself and my husband just going to have to get fit and take it in turns carrying him? He currently weighs just over 15kg and is tall for his age.

Thank you!

I love the ring sling for my toddler, as it supported me carrying on my hip. But she was quite dainty! But it meant we were on the same height for a conversation pointing things out etc.

With a 15kg toddler (mine was that weight at 5yo!) I think you'll need a back carrier. It will ve like a piggy back but more support.

Are there still sling library's about? You might be able to borrow one to try out.

Try a Tula toddler or preschool carrier. They have a wider back piece which keeps more of the child’s leg supported which helps them to feel less heavy on your back. - Back carrying is definitely the way to go. You can use these carriers on your front too which is great of your kid falls asleep on the plane or something. Back carry can be harder to do without either the child’s cooperation or a 2nd person to help.

I second the idea of going to a sling library to hire one, as your want the best chance of it being comfy with a bigger toddler. My local one charges £10 for a fortnight and if you get on well with it you can usually find one second hand on vinted or marketplace. There are online libraries too if you don't live near one. The FB group Babywearing UK (I think it's called?) is helpful for this stuff!

I've never heard of sling hire but a quick Google search shows there's one local to me!! He's definitely not dainty, myself and his dad are both tall (over 6ft) so I'm not surprised he's tall for his age.

Thank you 😊
