Gift ideas for 2 year-old?

I have a almost 2 year old niece I've never met before (she lives in a different country). I will meet her soon as I am travelling there. I won't be staying with her family but will certainly visit at least once. Her family is quite well-to-do so I suspect she's got pretty much any toy you can imagine.

No idea what to get her. So far all I got is a peppa pig coloring book as I am hoping that's too british for her to have already.

Any other thoughts? I don't want to break the bank but I dont want to seem cheap either. Obviously it needs to be small enough to fit in the luggage and preferably no writing as she doesn't speak English.

Paddington Bear stuffed toy? Goes with the idea of it being British, so something she's unlikely to have - and more relevant to you

My 2 year old likes the orchard games like dinosaur domino's, shopping list etc which are pretty small boxes. Would also be happy with balloons, bubbles, stickers, cake, books (Julia donaldson ones are good in English is ok)

Nice doll
Soft toy
Clothes

If in doubt ask the parents.

Lankakade do these lovely wooden people of different professions - I saw them on Ashley James's Instagram and she says her 2 year old loves them. I'm going to buy some for my DS, there's a great selection

A beautifully-made sensory book?

The ready-made versions are often pricey, but a great investment as grow with the child's development.

On a budget, just start basic and add new 'pages' each birthday/Christmas/every time you visit her.

Great for portable, quiet entertainment when she's out and about, or travelling.

Playdough? Crayola mini 'Pip squeak' washable felt tips to go with the colouring book? Soft toys? Books? Bath toys? Musical instruments? Possibilities are endless at that age!

My 2 year old once got a finger painting set and she loved it. It came with non toxic paints, an overall and lots of stamps and stencils.

At that age she also loved stickers, bubbles, choc buttons and role play with for example a lovely tea cup and plate set.
