Possibly picking up baby wrong

I had a c section which made it difficult to pick baby up the normal way. I had seen the midwives pick up under the arm pits but turn the baby side ways so the head was supported by the shoulder. Since then I've been doing this (not always) but am now thinking this is completely the wrong way to lift and obviously now convinced myself I've did irreparable damage.
Stopping picking up that way from now on but just looking for reassurance that I haven't hurt my baby.

You won't have hurt them. Baby would have let you know if they were in pain as you did this. Please don't beat yourself up as you have done nothing wrong.

Sounds ok and you will have felt if the head wasn’t supported as it does wobble!

did the mw or HV see you hold the baby and make no comment? I expect it’s all fine. But if you’re worried go and get it checked out as peace of mind as a new mum is really important and it’s normal to feel concerned. We have tiny humans to keep alive!

Congratulations on your new baby.

I always support the head when holding him, it's just picking him up I was scooping and turning so his head didn't flop back. Feel terrible

There you’ve said it yourself. His head didn’t flop back.

he’s fine. You’re fine.

If you're copying the midwives you're fine it's the head flopping your avoiding which is great, arms and legs are supposed to move, enjoy those cuddles in the most comfortable way your body can manage.

As long as you’re supporting the head it’s fine! I’d be surprised if any mother doesn’t instinctively know how to handle their baby, we all know to support the head and most other things are fine. As people say the baby would cry if it was unhappy.

My (left) wrist is fused so when my daughter was born it took a lot more thinking than just picking her up! I rolled her onto her right side and into my right hand/wrist/arm, thumb at the front of her shoulder and fingers at the back of her head for support, then my left hand to stabilise. She's absolutely fine, as will your baby will be Smile

I hope I've explained that right!
